The Integration Lead is accountable for ensuring that enterprise integrations are secure, scalable, resilient, and aligned to business strategy. This role leads the integration chapter, providing technical leadership, setting standards and best practices, and guiding teams to deliver high‑quality integration solutions that enable critical business processes across the organisation.

With responsibility for a large and diverse integration landscape, the role balances people leadership, technical leadership, and strategic ownership. You will work closely with product owners, value stream leads, architects, and other Digital leaders to shape integration strategy, prioritise initiatives, and ensure integrations support both current operational needs and long‑term digital aspirations.

You will play a key role in monitoring emerging technologies, defining future‑state integration patterns, and planning for growth and sustainability, while remaining actively involved in delivery and supporting squads in an agile environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide clear leadership and technical direction for the Integration chapter, establishing a shared vision and standards across Watercare’s integration platform

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing team of integration specialists, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and high performance

  • Own the integration strategy, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, business capabilities, and organisational priorities

  • Work closely with product owners, value stream leads, and stakeholders to understand needs, shape solution options, and prioritise platform and integration work

  • Oversee the design, build, configuration, support, and continuous improvement of integrations across their full lifecycle

  • Define and maintain integration patterns, best practices, and guardrails to ensure solutions are secure, robust, and scalable

  • Support agile delivery teams by providing hands‑on technical expertise, guidance on integration design, and advice on risk, dependencies, and technical debt

  • Monitor delivery performance, platform health, risks, and technical sustainability, using data and insights to support informed decision‑making

  • Build strong internal and external relationships to ensure integrations are well governed, well communicated, and effectively delivered

You are a technically strong and people‑focused leader with deep experience in integration platforms and modern cloud‑based architectures. You bring a pragmatic and strategic mindset, balancing hands‑on delivery with long‑term thinking, and are comfortable operating in a complex enterprise environment.

You are confident engaging with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, able to translate business needs into integration solutions while managing risk, security, and platform sustainability.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent industry experience, with recognised technology qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing technical or integration teams within an agile or iterative delivery environment

  • Proven experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise integrations using modern cloud platforms and integration technologies

  • Strong knowledge of Azure and AWS integration services, API‑based architectures, event‑driven patterns, and infrastructure as code practices

  • Solid understanding of DevOps and CI/CD practices, including automated testing and deployment pipelines

  • Experience applying architectural thinking to integration platforms, balancing short‑term delivery with long‑term maintainability and scalability

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively

  • A collaborative, value‑driven mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and emerging technologies

What We Do

At Watercare we’re proud to provide a lifeline service to the people of Auckland, while protecting the environment for future generations. Every day we provide the highest quality drinking water to 1.7 million Aucklanders, and take it away again once it’s been used in the sink or flushed down the loo. Without using chemicals, we treat wastewater to a very high standard and safely return it to the environment. We also plan for new and upgraded infrastructure far into the future to ensure we can meet the needs of our fast-growing city. We operate assets worth more than $9 billion – but it’s our people who are our most valuable assets. Our staff are passionate, motivated and trustworthy people who are the leaders in their fields. They’re not afraid of a challenge and are constantly looking for new ways of improving our processes and the service we offer our customers.
