SUMMARYThe Integrated Clinical Specialist provides substance use disorder treatment services to individuals diagnosed with substance use disorders or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. This position actively collaborates with a multidisciplinary team and community partners to provide comprehensive substance use disorder treatment services. This role acts as a champion for process improvement and program development. This role is also responsible for modeling professionalism and clinical rigor for the care team.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:  

  • Conduct screening and assessment activities to determine medical necessity for substance us treatment including detoxification needs, diagnostic evaluation of substance use and mental health disorders, evaluating placement within ASAM criteria, and recommend a clinical course of treatment. 
  • Abilty to manage an individual case load with more complex needs as well as provide clinical support to the patients that are managed by the care team, this includes completing risk assessments as needed.
  • Apply motivational techniques and case management to promote engagement in treatment.
  • Conduct continuing care and monitoring of recovery efforts post-treatment.
  • Provide engaging patient education, cognitive behavioral, psycho-education, process, and relapse prevention group therapies.  
  • Act as liaison and bridge to family, community involved agencies, primary care, and other service providers
  • Provide services that are family and community oriented, person centered, culturally competent, and trauma-informed.
  • Provide case management, resource information and referral services.
  • Provide assertive coordination of care with adjunct medical and other community service providers. 
  • Participate and actively engage in clinical supervision. Work to resolve conflicts effectively and participate actively in clinical development plans.
  • Establish and sustain positive team relationships. Collaborating with team, family, and community partners to support flexible patient directed care. 
  • Actively promote and engage in activities that promote team cohesiveness
  • Model professionalism and clinical rigor for the care team acting as a resources for consultation.
  • Participate in staff meetings, including case presentations, clinical consultation, and operational process review.  
  • Promote a Recovery Through Community culture.
  • Demonstrate effective clinical judgment to support safe and quality treatment. 
  • Maintain credentialing and adherence to ethical guidelines.
  • Provide timely, accurate and complete medical record documentation. 
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality are required of this position.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology
  • Three years of experience working in community or behavioral health system.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Advanced knowledge of and ability to effectively apply advanced principles of Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Informed Care, and similar strategies for facilitating recovery and empowerment.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, understand mental status concepts, symptomology, treatment and service terminology and apply each of these concepts, implement skills development strategies, and identify, implement and coordinate the services and supports identified in a treatment plan.
  • Ability to engage patients in service oriented treatment plans and determine clinically relevant substance use treatment interventions.
  • Ability to utilize both oral and written communications skills to effectively communicate with patients, co-workers, community resources, supervisors, and various other individuals encountered in the course of performing work while maintaining patient confidentiality and establishing professional rapport.
  • Ability to operate a computer, utilize basic MS Office programs, and effectively navigate and maintain patient records in an electronic medical records system.

 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

  • Attain CADC-R status within 30 days of hire (if not already in possession of CADC-R or higher)
  • CADC I or above or credentialed within 12 months of employment.
  • May be required to attain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to acquire within 90 days of hire.
  • Crisis prevention training completion within 90 days of hire.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

  • Must be able to perform Basic Life Support for 15 minutes continuously if certified in BLS.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to follow proper protocol while interacting directly with patients and working in a clinical environment.
  • Must be able to operate a personal computer, including reading from a computer monitor, keyboarding, and using a mouse.
  • Must be able to negotiate staircase, reach, bend, and handle objects.

Skills Required

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology
  • Three years of experience in community or behavioral health system
  • Attain CADC-R status within 30 days of hire
  • CADC I or above or credentialed within 12 months of employment
