Job Description

Within the framework of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider project, and long shutdown activities, you will join the Cryogenic Group as a full member of the team, working in a multidisciplinary environment focused on cryogenic instrumentation, control systems, and electrical engineering. You will contribute to R&D activities, as well as to the design, reception, and maintenance of tooling and test benches used for validation and commissioning operations.

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of new cryogenic instrumentation like pressure, level, temperature or heater, ensuring their design, qualification, and adaptation to the complex and challenging operating conditions of CERN accelerators, including cryogenic environments, high magnetic fields, and other harsh constraints inherent to accelerator operation.
  • Ensure the maintenance of existing test benches based on LabVIEW, including legacy systems, while also developing new test facilities for the qualification of series of radiation-tolerant electronic cards, the calibration of absolute and differential pressure sensors, and associated data analysis.
  • Provide field support for cryogenic instrumentation deployed across CERN accelerators, cryogenic plants, and test facilities, including diagnostics, maintenance, and repair activities to ensure reliable and continuous operation of the equipment.

Your profile

  • Testing, calibration, and validation of instrumentation sensors under cryogenic conditions.
  • Experience with front-end and back-end electronics, as well as real-time data acquisition systems.
  • Performance analysis and optimisation of cryogenic instrumentation systems. 

Skills

  • Metrology, Radiology, LabView or similar, Python, data acquisition system.
  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation issues in complex process systems.
  • Applying practical knowledge of measurement and electronic technologies in operational environments,
  • Collaborating within multidisciplinary teams and contributing to the training and supervision of students.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Applied Physics/Electromechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Additional Information

Job closing date: 21.06.2026 at 23:59 CEST.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Job flexibility: Hybrid
