This is a position within Great Hearts Nova.

Position Summary

The Instructional Systems & Support Specialist supports the delivery of high-quality, classically aligned online instruction by building and maintaining instructional systems that support teaching and learning across Great Hearts Nova.

This role creates and maintains Canvas course shells, loads and organizes curriculum content, supports scholar enrollment in approved instructional programs, and trains teachers on effective course setup and instructional workflows. The Specialist also provides first-line support for instructional technology, assisting scholars, families, teachers, and staff with access, navigation, and basic troubleshooting while escalating complex technical issues to other members of the Technology Team.


Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstructional Systems
  • Create, copy, and maintain Canvas course shells and templates.

  • Load and organize curriculum content and instructional resources.

  • Configure course navigation, modules, assignments, and settings.

  • Maintain consistency and quality across instructional platforms.

Scholar Enrollment & Course Support
  • Enroll scholars in approved instructional programs and digital learning platforms.

  • Support course access and resolve enrollment-related issues.

  • Coordinate with Enrollment and Academic Leadership to ensure accurate instructional access.

Teacher Training & Support
  • Create and maintain help guides and training resources.

  • Provide first-line support for instructional technology and educational applications.

  • Escalate advanced technical issues to the Technology Team.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Partner with curriculum, academic, enrollment, and technology teams.

  • Assist with instructional technology implementations and process improvements.

  • Participate in quality assurance for instructional systems and course content.

Qualifications, Competencies, and StrengthsEducation and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in education, instructional technology, educational technology, information systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Two to five years of experience supporting instructional technology, learning management systems, educational technology, or online learning environments preferred.
  • Experience supporting teachers in K–12 education, virtual learning, or educational technology preferred.
  • Experience with Canvas or comparable Learning Management Systems strongly preferred.
Technology Expertise

Experience with or familiarity in the following areas is preferred:

  • Canvas Learning Management System

  • Google Workspace for Education

  • Student Information Systems (PowerSchool or similar)

  • Educational applications and digital curriculum platforms

  • Zoom or other virtual learning platforms

  • Google productivity tools

Organization & Project Management

Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Communication & Training
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical processes to educators, families, and non-technical users.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop documentation, train users, and provide exceptional customer support.

  • Ability to independently troubleshoot instructional technology issues, identify root causes, and determine when escalation is appropriate.

Additional RequirementsType of Clearance

Must possess or obtain a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Level Fingerprint Clearance Card and complete Texas Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance and background check requirements. Additional state clearances may be required.

Physical Functions

Requires, but is not limited to, standing, sitting, repetitive hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May occasionally be required to move or position equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.

Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in education, instructional technology, information systems, or related field
  • Two to five years experience supporting instructional technology, LMS, or online learning environments
  • Experience supporting K-12 teachers, virtual learning, or educational technology
  • Experience with Canvas or comparable Learning Management Systems
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education and Google productivity tools
  • Familiarity with Student Information Systems (PowerSchool or similar)
  • Familiarity with Zoom or other virtual learning platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication and training skills
  • Exceptional organizational, project management, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot instructional technology and escalate complex issues appropriately
  • Ability to work in CST and AZ time zones (remote)
  • Possess or obtain Arizona DPS IVP Level Fingerprint Clearance Card and complete Texas DPS fingerprint clearance and background checks; pass criminal history background check
