Job Description

We have an opening for an Instructional Designer/Web-Based Training Developer. You will use various instructional design theories and analysis techniques for adult learners to develop new (full lifecycle) or revise existing courses and advanced computer-assisted learning systems using a systematic approach to training development and will use the latest web-development and graphic arts tools in order to leverage technology and keep the Laboratory's training on par with industry trends. This position is in the Safety Education & Training Office (SETO) within the Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) Directorate.

This is a Flexible Term appointment with full-time funding expected through September 30, 2029.

This position may offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization. 

You will

  • Develop, review and evaluate the ESH learning systems suite of courses by applying effective instructional design principles in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Formulate Structured Job-Task Analyses to ensure ESH courses are developed using a systematic approach to training and extend ESH course assessments to Levels 1-4.
  • Identify, recommend, and execute new ideas or methods for enhancing course curriculum in collaboration with ESH Subject Matter Experts and SETO Training Team members.
  • Design course goals, objectives, course content including text, scripts, graphics, video, audio, test questions, instructor guides, participant materials and supporting documentation to engage students in the learning process, encourage course participation and meet the requirements of the adult learner.
  • Write course narration scripts, scenarios and simulation required for web-based course content using a systematic approach to training. In addition, sync course narration audio files to the appropriate course.
  • Apply course development software skills in the development of web-based course and ensure successful course publishing/product is delivered under established schedules.
  • Interpret regulations and determine corresponding training requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).  See Additional Information section below for details.
  • Bachelor’s degree in educational/instructional design field, computer information systems or related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience implementing instructional technology models and designs and the application of adult learning theory, web design and web-based training interface design.
  • Experience in the use of simulations, interactivity, hypermedia and tutorials in training applications.
  • Experience in the development of online and/or computer-based educational/training courses using a variety of tools and methodologies as well as experience working with and advanced knowledge of technology used to support training in both the online and classroom environments.
  • Experience with course development software applications (e.g., Storyline, Articulate, etc.).
  • Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal, facilitation and collaboration skills necessary to effectively write, present, explain, advise and communicate complex information to all levels of personnel.
  • Effective organizational skills with detail orientation necessary to handle multiple complex tasks in a demanding environment with conflicting priorities, tight and changing deadlines, and frequent interruptions while providing high-level customer service and good follow-through.
  • Experience working independently and in a team environment with a broad cross-section of people and organizations, managing complex projects, and meeting schedules.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Working knowledge of UC/LLNL safety policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of LLNL web-based testing (WBT)/survey system and institutional WBT server configurations.
  • Experience applying presentation skills in an interactive classroom environment.

 

Pay Range: $114,900 – $140,712 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage.  An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs

Security Clearance

None required.  However, this position involves U.S. Export Control; this work must be performed by a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. national, or U.S. protected individual (e.g., refugee, asylee)).

Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
