Position Summary

The Instructional Design Specialist executes course development using a content learning management system as well as other various tools. They design learning projects from inception to completion in accordance with instructional design principles.  This role must demonstrate the ability to utilize effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills, as well as knowledge of how people learn and how to help them learn better. Their responsibilities also include administration of the learning management and employee engagement systems and tools.

Responsibilities 

Instructional Design 

  • Analyzes training needs and performance gaps to identify requirements for instructional design and development projects.
  • Plans, designs, and implements innovative end-to-end learning projects for an engaging learning experience for participants.
  • Develops training materials for instructors; creates, revises, rewrites, and structures content and activities to shape it for learning needs.
  • Identifies and plans appropriate instructional content design strategies and objectives, curriculum, learning activities, and assessment materials based on analysis of tasks, learners, and subject matter to engage and educate participants on various topics, ensuring the content matches the objectives.
  • Develops and publishes interactive and engaging multimedia course content and instructional material for online and instructor-led delivery, including job aids, text, graphics, interactive elements, and rich media, using a variety of media and web content applications, audio, and video capture programs.
  • Ensures that the foundational, professional, graduate, and any other appropriate competencies common to all programs of study are appropriately integrated throughout the curriculum.
  • Determines, communicates, and manages scope of project, requirements, goals, and timeline; adheres to budget requirements.
  • Assesses effectiveness of instructional materials and training programs through formative and summative evaluation methods, making data-driven recommendations for improvements.
  • Researches and maintains an understanding of teaching methods and tools; pursues and utilizes knowledge of emerging technologies, tools, and trends in education and learning strategies.
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews to ensure instructional materials are error-free, technically sound, and aligned with established standards.
  • Assists members of the Human Resources and Talent Management teams with ad hoc material development requests. 

 Learning Technology 

  • Expands the use capabilities of the Content Learning Management System (CLMS) in support of Employee Success Program (ESP) initiatives such as Onboarding, Performance Development Program and Manager Development Program.
  • Designs and sets up modules in the CLMS for online performance development features including but not limited to online tools, on demand learning connections, task assignment and reminders, reporting and tracking.
  • Leverages CLMS tools and resources to meet organizational needs.  
  • Creates, updates, and maintains electronic records for staff training.
  • Establishes and maintains content learning management system user accounts.
  • Determines user properties and permissions to courses and information.
  • Resolves technical issues for users, instructors, and course developers.
  • Facilitates upload of learning content for internal and external sources.
  • Trains users and facilitates positive user experience with learning and engagement systems.
  • Works with vendor to troubleshoot database issues.
  • Conducts content quality review of systems regularly, takes corrective action as needed.
  • Gains expert level understanding of the CLMS LMS to conduct skill gap analysis; tracks training enrollment and completion for the participants.  
  • Implements learning impact measurement tools and assesses behavioral change 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study and related talent development certificates with significant training delivery
  • 3+ years successful learning and development experience, progressive training assignments involving classroom instruction, design, and development
  • DDI Certified or capable of being certified
  • Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD) certification preferred
  • Experience in using course authoring tools for virtual learning preferred
  • Proficiency with project management planning
  • Possesses thorough understanding of adult learning theory and demonstrates excellent presentation and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of foundational learning theories
  • Knowledge of instructional design models and processes (ADDIE model)
  • Able to work effective with a team and independently 
  • Demonstrated ability to find collaborative solutions, open to different solutions 
  • Must be able to drive stakeholder engagement throughout learning process 
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing with diverse levels of employees 
  • Values diversity of thought and drives inclusion

Work Environment:

This position works primarily in an office environment using computers and technology.  Verbal and auditory capability are required. Occasional exposure in production plant where large equipment and noise are prevalent.  Safety gear is required in these areas.

This position may work from home up to 2 days per week if performance is in good standing.

This position has no direct reports.
