Business Context and Main Purpose of the Role

As digital transformation accelerates, the need for robust data loss prevention (DLP) governance and actionable data insights has never been greater. The Data Loss Prevention Governance and Data Insights Lead will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the company’s DLP strategy, ensuring that data is protected, risks are proactively managed, and business value is maximized through data-driven insights.
Role Purpose
Investigates Insider Risk and DLP cases day to day, while providing light-touch governance and peer support across the analyst team to lift overall investigation quality and consistency.
Main Accountabilities
Investigating Insider Risk and DLP cases end to end
Carry a full share of the day-to-day case queue, working alongside the wider analyst team on triage, investigation and closure.
Act as the second set of eyes on L1 analyst cases, providing peer review, coaching and escalation support to lift investigation quality and consistency.
Provide light-touch oversight of day-to-day case management including triage standards, queue health and SLA adherence, flagging issues and trends to the Insider Risk DLP Manager.
Apply Insider Risk SOPs, playbooks and investigation documentation consistently, and feedback practical improvements from casework experience.
Apply case tagging, categorisation and disposition codes correctly and consistently, flagging where taxonomies need to evolve as risks change.
Surface improvement opportunities from casework detections, enrichments, tooling friction and route them to the DLP Use Case Specialist for prioritisation and delivery.
Partner with the DLP Use Case Specialist to validate that new alerts, classifications or SOAR enrichments are operationally usable before they go live (analyst-side acceptance).
Support audit and assurance activity by ensuring case records, decisions and rationale are evidenced to a defensible standard.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with DLP solutions (e.g., Microsoft Purview) and integration with SIEM, EDR, and CASB tools.
- Experience in data analytics, visualisation, and reporting (e.g., Sentinel Log Analytics, Power BI, Tableau).
- Strong understanding of data classification, tagging, and access control methods.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, data sovereignty laws).
- Familiarity with cloud security and DLP controls in Microsoft 365, AWS, Azure, Zscaler, Google Workspace.
- Understanding of encryption, rights management, and role-based access controls.
Experience
- Demonstrated ability to explain complex security and data topics to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience developing and enforcing data protection policies aligned with business needs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data-driven decision-making.
- Project management experience in DLP rollouts, tool upgrades, and compliance initiatives.
