Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Inside Sales Manager, the Sales Engineer communicates with our customers, Engineering, Sales Managers, Sales Representatives, Purchasing Manager and Controller on day-to-day activities regarding quotations, orders, delivery schedules, designs and applications.  The Sales Engineer will research and develop plans and design mechanical, electrical and electromechanical products and systems based on information provided by customers.  The Sales Engineer will also act as a coordinator between all internal departments and customers.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate with internal and external customers about project requirements. 
  • Thoroughly document all project-related communications.
  • Customer interface (internal and external customers).
  • Evaluate customer specifications and drawings.
  • Designs refrigeration mechanical and electrical equipment by selecting components to meet system requirements based on quality, cost effectiveness, energy efficiency and competitiveness for refrigeration systems, ice arenas, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Prepare customer quotation, proposal change orders, etc.
  • Receive and approve purchase orders.
  • Thoroughly transfer information from the Sales Department to Engineering when an order is received.
  • Be the liaison between Production/Engineering and the customer.
  • Fill out all necessary forms and submit to appropriate people for approval, if required.
  • Follow-up with customers after installation and occasionally visit job site at time of startup.
  • Coordinate with the customer, sales representative, regional sales manager and customer service technician on field issues.
  • Work with customers, contractors, vendors and Purchasing to resolve any warranty issues.
  • Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Coordinates preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics with Engineering/Drafting and Production.
  • Communicates with Production personnel to build systems according to specifications.  Directs and coordinates manufacturing activities through Engineering to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
  • Evaluates equipment during manufacturing and recommends design modifications as necessary.
  • Provides proper documentation of all conversations and decisions with customers, contractors, RSM’s, Reps, and Service pertaining to equipment orders and proposals from conception through and after delivery and start-up.
  • Ensures invoicing documents are clear and accurate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements for Effective Performance:

  • Four (4) year Engineering Degree or equivalent.
  • Parallel refrigeration system knowledge required.
  • Industrial system knowledge required.
  • Natural refrigerant (CO2 and Ammonia) knowledge helpful.
  • Electrical distribution knowledge helpful.
  • Electrical controls and PLC knowledge helpful.
  • Computer Usage:
    • General computer filing concepts and structures.
    • Proficiency in the Microsoft Windows environment and with Microsoft Office software.
    • Understanding of business systems software is desirable at entry level and required after completion of internal training.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and perceptiveness.
  • Very detail-oriented.
  • High level of mathematical ability.
    • Speed and accuracy with numbers required.
    • Needs to be proficient in alpha and numeric comparative cross-checked.
  • Understanding of refrigeration systems is required.

Skills/Abilities/Specifications:

    • Needs to be detail oriented.
    • Must have the ability to spot errors and pick out discrepancies.
    • Must be able to solve problems and is customer oriented.

 

Behavioral & Environmental Requirements:

  • Maintain a positive work attitude. Zero Zone expects all employees to behave and communicate in a manner which will facilitate good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, and supervisor.
  • Safety toe shoes and safety glasses are required while in production areas.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk throughout the office and production areas; have use of hands and fingers to use a computer, telephone, and other office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
