Compensation

The compensation target range for this role is:

$30.00 - $35.00

Job Summary

For this role, ideal candidates must demonstrate a high level of technical skills and independent functionality. They will support engineers, researchers, and scientists with the hands on work to achieve the goals for technology development here at Purple. This will involve everything from mixing and injection molding materials, to building prototypes and running the instrumented tests to facilitate critical progress forward. Their ability to communicate challenges and provide feedback is crucial.

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assists the entire Technology R&D team with critical technical skills and hands on work
• Injection molding machine (IMM) operation is a critical duty of this role and will include mixing and clean up along with maintaining a safe environment
• Perform experimental testing using a variety of lab test equipment such as uniaxial test machines, durability testers, pressure mappers, material science tests, and tests to simulate other human interactions with products. These tests should be performed per the plan worked out with engineers and researchers.
• Prototype fabrication including small test samples all the way up to complete mattresses
• Manage the raw materials and supplies needed for prototypes and experimental testing
• Simple machining operations may be utilized to make fixtures and/or prototypes
• Work with other groups in Innovations as a team to both support their work and leverage them to support your work

Required Skills, Education, Experience:

• A Technical credential such as an associate degree in a field such as Engineering Technology or equivalent experience
• Minimum Years of Experience: 2+ years of experience in a technical support role required
• Proficiency in technical software such as Solidworks, and basic level programming in Python, C#, and C++ is a plus. Curiosity to learn and explore new tools is a must
• Highly adaptable and able to offer creative solutions for difficult, often ambiguous, problems
• Experience in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment and independently
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Available for occasional overtime or travel as needed

Physical Requirements

Physical activities may occasionally include:

• Remaining in stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
• Adjusting or moving objects up to 15 pounds in all directions.
• Occasionally lifting heavier objects up to 50 lbs in a controlled manner or assisting others in moving larger objects such as mattresses.

Physical activities may constantly include:

• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
• Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned.

Environmental Conditions may occasionally include:

• Machine shop
• Injection molding area
• Test lab
• Ventilated glue booth
• Mixing of polymers
• Noisy open office environment
