Job Description
This role is hybrid remote with 60% monthly in-office presence in Mount Prospect, Illinois. (3 days in office per week).
The Innovation Project Engineer is an innovator and a tinkerer that will be working in the front end of the product development funnel to help generate and develop new concepts for future roadmap products for Dremel.
This role will work with the User Experience team on developing a wide range of new power tool concepts that is fueling the growth and expansion of Dremel’s product lines. This includes ideation around user pains to developing initial designs for products for feasibility testing and user feedback. The main responsibilities of this role are:
- Build and evaluate power tool prototypes using CAD, Rapid Prototyping and in-house machine shop
- Researching industry trends and new technologies to identify future opportunities for the Dremel Brand
- Participate in user research to find pain points and generate solutions
- Perform front end engineering development to create proof of concept prototypes
- Generate Intellectual Property and perform Intellectual Property searches
- Mechanical / Electrical / single function mockups
- Collaborate with Engineering teams, manufacturing plant and external vendors to gain feedback on concepts
- Present project updates and concept pitches in the monthly management meetings
- Continue to drive an innovation culture
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering required, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred
- 5 to 7 years of experience developing new products and building prototypes
- Experience with CAD (Preferably Pro/Engineer) and building concepts from sketches to physical products required
- Experience with electrical mockups or prototyping using Arduino or similar preferred
- Entrepreneurial/Startup thinker with a curious mindset
- Passionate about innovating, solving problems and learning about innovation
- Interest in DIY projects, woodworking and building
