GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Must demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate Injury
Prevention information to families with children. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to assess needs of the family in regard to each child’s unique situation.

This position is completely funded by a yearly grant from the Texas Department of Transportation. This grant will focus on traffic safety education to all designated counties. Traffic safety focus areas: car seats, bicycle, distracted/drinking driving and pedestrian safety.
This grant is a year-to-year grant from October 1st to September 30th.

- • Must have own reliable vehicle for daily travel and transporting program materials, resources and
- equipment to counties served.
- • Must be willing and able to drive rental vehicles that do not require a Commercial Driving License.
- • Ability to work flexible hours, which will include weekends, and some evenings. Employee will offset
- hours during the same week.
- • Maintains liaisons with the Police Department, Health Department, Texas Department of Public
- Safety, Texas Department of Transportation, and others.
- • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- • Assists with developing and designing brochures, pamphlets, and fact sheets, for Injury Prevention
- Supervisor approval.
- • Assists with staffing of information/safety booths during health fairs and community events.
- • Provides education regarding traffic safety information to Driscoll Children’s Hospital patients as requested.
- • Will provide traffic safety outreach in the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) assigned
- district on traffic safety grant initiatives.
- • Receives constructive criticism with an attitude that indicates willingness to improve; gives feedback
- in a constructive manner.
- • Conducts educational programming, including bicycle safety, pedestrian and bus safety, and teen
- driver safety. Assists the Injury Prevention Specialist and Injury Prevention Supervisor with program
- planning and meeting grant objectives.
- • Provides traffic safety presentations to educate audiences such as Head Start, PTAs, and other groups
- through various delivery methods in traffic safety, occupant safety, pedestrian safety, and wheeled
- safety within the designated counties served.
- • Serves as a traffic safety resource for staff, volunteers, and clients, including schools, agencies, and
- summer recreation programs within the counties served.
- • Is experienced with public speaking and communication, both written and verbal.
- • Provides routine/administrative tasks to support the delivery of established educational program
- goals, i.e., scheduling and confirming events, gathering materials and resources for program delivery,
- and ensuring delivery to offsite program locations.
- • Compiles and organizes approved inventory educational materials such as training aids, fact sheets,
- newsletters, exhibits, and demonstration projects.
- • Research opportunities to initiate new traffic safety Injury Prevention programs.
- • Collects surveys to analyze the program, looking for the strengths and weaknesses to strengthen the
- programming.
- • Interacts with program participants and community partner agencies to obtain their evaluation of
- the programming to share with the supervisor for program analysis.
- • Analyze data from surveys, evaluations and public car seat events and provide detailed written
- reports monthly.
- • Meets or exceeds program delivery goals and objectives established by the grant administrator.
- The Child Passenger Safety Technician certification class will be provided within three months of
hire. Successful completion of the course first-time attending is required to maintain employment.
• Provides information for preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program
progress and accomplishments to present to funders and others as requested.
• Submits all required documentation in a timely manner, including but not limited to, event sign-in
sheets, mileage, and other reports required by grant objectives.
• Possesses confident interpersonal skills and ability to work in a self-directed environment.
• Requires a well-organized individual with an excellent capacity for effective time management.
• Has the ability to work independently and as part of a team
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- X Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-
- year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- X- Proficient in computer applications, i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, Publisher,
- including ability to navigate the internet and other web-based communication mediums.
- X- Experience in researching, creating, coordinating, maintaining, scheduling, presenting, and evaluating traffic safety programs and data preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- List the licenses, certificates, or registrations that are required to perform the essential duties of this job.
- -Obtain Child Passenger Safety Technician certification within three months of hire.
