The Process / Production Engineer is responsible for process design and the design and implementation of process improvements and troubleshooting, in order to maintain and improve effectiveness and efficiency of the production processes, reduce cost, improve sustainability and maximize profitability.
He / she may lead or contribute to developing, configuring and optimizing the production processes from inception through to start up and delivery. He / she solves problems and makes (process) design recommendations in order to improve the installations and production processes and reduce the total cost of ownership.
The Process / Production Engineer may execute process improvements as CAPEX projects, and may act as project manager for the project, from the initial budgeting and design phase to execution and delivery of the project to production.
The Process / Production Engineer works closely with Operations management and with the Maintenance Manager / Technical Manager in order to ensure an integral approach in the design and operation of the assets and installations.
The level of the Process / Production Engineer will depend on the size of the organisation / site and installations, the scope and size of the projects managed as well as the complexity of the production processes / equipment. In a larger OpCo, the Process / Production Engineer may specialize in a specific area but in smaller OpCo’s / Sites, the Process / Production Engineer will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks.

  • Master degree is preferable
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing multinational companies
  • English fluency B2+

Roles and responsibilities:

Process design 

  • Develops, configures and optimizes production processes from inception through to start up and certification, researches and develops new equipment 

  • Drafts technical project objectives by drafting maintenance of CAPEX or improvement project proposals and plans; determines project specifications in line with operations requirements, and performance standards; completes technical studies and prepares cost estimates 

  • Evaluates and validates design alternatives to create optimum designs. 

  • Certifies the technical accuracy of designs and financial business case associated 

 

Process management and troubleshooting 

  • Keeps an oversight of all production processes and supports the day-to-day optimization of the production lines and processes 

  • Assists Production staff in troubleshooting in the event of problems; performs root cause analysis in case of (recurring) malfunctions, problems or other issues; suggests solutions to prevent malfunctions from recurring 

  • Monitors the performance of equipment, including regular testing and ensuring maintenance tasks are carried out 

 

Projects 

  • Participates as a team member in a broad CAPEX assignments, or leads project teams in CAPEX projects  

  • Participates in assigned installation and/or process improvement projects, within the project management guidelines. 

  • Ensures successful completion of the assigned project phases within the budgeted time and cost constraints. 

  • Manages the Installation and start-up of new process equipment; provides process documentation and operating instructions 

 

Continuous improvement 

  • Continuously evaluates equipment and processes to ensure both efficiency and quality remain high 

  • Identifies and implements improvements to the production systems, processes and practices in order to improve / optimize effectiveness and efficiency of the processes; develops best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of output 

 

Technical leadership 

  • Stays abreast of the latest developments in process management 

  • Acts as a technical consultant on production processes; Contributes to the development of Nutreco technical standards 
     

  • Compliance 

  • Assures that all process documentation shows and ensures compliance with both internal and external regulations 

  • Performs risk assessments of the equipment and processes being used, covering all aspects from safety, health, food safety and all other HSSE standards 

  • Signals potential hazardous and / or unsafe situations, takes appropriate action is case of imminent unsafe situations
