JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Manager, IT Architecture, the SolutionsArchitect will contribute to the success of the IT Architecture program. This position is focused on design concepts and the ability to provide a consultative role to our business. The ideal candidate would have a mix of architect and operations experience and is expected to interface with stakeholders, to define and reach an understanding of their technical requirements. Designing, documenting, sizing the work effort, and determining the needed skills and resources for projects and having strong process, time management and communication skills.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze requirements - Using your experience and knowledge of both the business and systems footprint to analyze new or existing requirements to understand impact on applications and network infrastructure
  • Road maps - Develop & maintain platform road maps for McCain. This will require working collaboratively with our business units, other IT Architects, application support teams, vendor management teams, project teams and Operations teams
  • Develop - Our future state architecture for our data centers and network in collaboration with other Technology Services teams through the creation of new technical service offerings for our operations team
  • Create - White papers and presentations for senior leadership on new and upcoming technologies and clearly articulate the value our business will receive from implementing these technologies
  • Coaching - Challenge others to develop as leaders, while serving as a role model. Share acquired skills and business/system knowledge with team members through formal and information channels
  • Continued learning - Stay current on industry technologies, trends, and best practices
  • Communicate - Effective communication both verbally and written to IS project team members, IS staff and IS management
  • Develop and/or review architectural and detailed designs to insure it meats the requirements of McCain
  • Assist in the creation of complex solutions both on-premises and in the cloud


MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
Technical, Solution Architecture and Design Skills for the following:

  • A clear understanding of core Azure Cloud Computing services
  • A detailed understanding of Networking, Databases, Software, APIs, Logic/Function Apps and Servers in the Cloud.
  • Experience in designing, building, deploying, operating, and optimizing resources in Azure
  • Support cloud migration/implementations
  • Experience in Digital Manufacturing solutions - Factory Talk, OSiPi, Pavilion, High Byte
  • Detailed understanding of Azure Data services - Cosmos, SQL Paas, Postgres, AKS, Azure Data factory, Data pipeline services, Synapse
  • Experience in C#, .Net SDK and Angular Apps
  • Hands-on experience with IaC and automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible
  • Proficiency in Python, Scripting YAML [SR1] , Microsoft DevOps, Terraform (IaC), Bash, etc.) for automation tasks.
  • Expert level of proficiency with performance and scalability on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience working with edge compute and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS).
  • Demonstrated experience developing and/or architecting performant applications in public cloud.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing cloud observability, across complex cloud workloads and technology stacks.
  • Demonstrated experience working with various cloud native technologies and services including compute, storage, networking, security and data services.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) tooling and practices .
  • Understanding of the Agile project management framework
  • Experience, from a design perspective, in the following Azure areas:
    • Azure Networking:
      • Virtual Networks (IP Addressing, VNet Peering and Virtual Network Connections)
      • Hybrid connectivity (Virtual Hubs, Virtual Network Gateways, site-to-site VPN, ExpressRoute)
      • Orchestrating Routing Paths, especially in a Hybrid Cloud including the use of BGP
      • Azure Load Balancers
      • Azure Bastion Hosts
    • Monitor Resources and Log Analytics:
      • Use Log Analytics to write a simple query and charts
      • Direct resource logs to a centralized log analytics workspace for monitoring/reporting
    • Compute:
      • Virtual Machines, Virtual Machine Scale Sets
      • Virtual Machine cost optimization, performance, and security
      • Backup strategies and Fail-over Recovery
    • Storage:
      • Securing Data against unauthorized access
      • Backing Up strategies that allow for efficient restores
      • long-term archival storage to maintain corporate compliance
    • Application Workloads in Azure:
      • Synapse Data Warehouse
      • SQL Managed Instances

      • Logic Apps / Function Apps

KEY QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCES:

  • University degree in Computer Science (or related field of study) or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a SolutionsArchitect with an emphasis on supporting complex environments
  • Hands-on experience with complex enterprise systems, networks and technologies
  • Accountable to ensure solutions are stable, scalable, capable of providing consistently acceptable performance and reliability
  • A track record of implementing and maintaining best practices and standards
  • Ability to assess new initiatives to determine work effort and estimate time-to-completion
  • Applied knowledge of ITIL and enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF is considered an asset
  • Microsoft Azure Certifications such as:
    • Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate
    • Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert

This position is located at the Global Technology Centre in Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick and reports to the Manager, IT Architecture.
