3) Network & Wireless Infrastructure

  • Design and deliver hospital-grade Local Area Network (LAN), Network Access Control (NAC)/802.1X, segmentation/VLANs, Quality of Service (QoS), and resilient core/distribution/edge.
  • Engineer Wireless Fidelity (Wi‑Fi) 6/6E coverage (throughout the hospital including complex areas like clinical, theatres, imaging suites, wards) with RF surveys, Alarm Management, Real-Time Location Services (RTLS) support, and interference management.
  • Implement internet & Wide Area Network (WAN) with dual diverse fibre, Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN)/Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) as appropriate, and secure remote access for support vendors.

4) Voice & Communications Systems

  • Deliver IP telephony/Unified Communications (UC), Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT)/Voice over Wi‑Fi, integration with nurse call, public address, crash team/Code Blue call flows, and on-call/rota routing.
  • Support migration plans for legacy paging/bleep where required; ensure resilience and call recording where mandated.

5) Clinical & Operational Systems Integration

  • Enable safe connectivity on converged network for medical devices (in conjunction with Clinical Engineering Department), Building Management System (BMS), security (Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV)/Access Control System (ACS)), ePrescription, Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)/Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA), Radiology Information System (RIS)/Laboratory Information System (LIS), theatres, maternity, ED, pharmacy automation, and Internet of Things (IoT)/Operational Technology (OT).
  • Apply International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 80001‑1 principles for risk management of IT networks incorporating medical devices; maintain device/segment inventories and isolation policies.

6) Data Centre, Edge & Cloud

  • Deliver on-premise and cloud-integrated infrastructure (virtualisation, storage, backup, DR).
  • Ensure alignment of recovery objectives with service criticality.
  • Support monitoring, capacity planning, and scalable design.

7) Security & Compliance

  • Implement secure-by-design principles including identity, access control, and segmentation.
  • Work with security teams to ensure compliance with GDPR and ISO standards.
  • Support vulnerability management, audits, and security testing.

8) Testing, Go-Live & Handover

  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)/SAT, Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and live failover tests for core services (network, voice, Wi‑Fi, edge, DR).
  • Manage cutover plans, hypercare staffing, and handover to operations with full as-built documentation, asset/Configuration Management Database (CMDB), and support runbooks.
  • Define operational SLAs/SLOs, support models, and knowledge transfer to hospital ICT teams.

9) Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Support procurement processes and technical evaluations.
  • Manage supplier delivery against scope, cost, and timelines.
  • Oversee contracts, SLAs, and vendor performance.

10) Stakeholder Engagement

  • Run workshops and walkthroughs with clinical services, nursing, theatres, ED, diagnostics, facilities, estates, and executive sponsors.
  • Produce clear drawings, schedules, cutover packs, and communications; support training and adoption.
