THIS ROLE WITH THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DIVISION IS 37.5 HOURS PER WEEK, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 8:00 A.M. TO 4:30 P.M., AND IS FULLY ON-SITE (REMOTE/HYBRID OPTION IS NOT AVAILABLE). THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR ALL FULL-TIME BENEFITS AVAILABLE FOR NON-AFFILIATED STAFF WITH THE TOWN OF GLASTONBURY.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under broad supervision of the Director of Information Technology, incumbent is responsible for ensuring the security, availability, reliability, performance, and lifecycle management of the Town's enterprise technology infrastructure. The position plans, implements, administers, monitors, and supports infrastructure services, including servers, networks, cloud services, cybersecurity, endpoint computing, enterprise applications, unified communications, and related technologies. The position researches, evaluates, and recommends technology solutions that improve operational efficiency, strengthen cybersecurity, support business continuity, and advance the Town's strategic technology objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Infrastructure & Systems Administration – Administers the Town's enterprise infrastructure, including servers, storage, virtualization, operating systems, backup and recovery systems, and cloud services.
- Network Services – Administers secure and reliable network services, including LAN/WAN, wireless, Internet connectivity, VPN, firewalls, and monitoring systems.
- Cybersecurity & Identity Management – Manages authentication, user access, endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, security updates, and cybersecurity controls.
- Endpoint Services – Coordinates deployment, lifecycle management, maintenance, and support of desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and related technologies.
- Enterprise Application Support – Supports enterprise and departmental applications through implementation, upgrades, troubleshooting, integrations, and vendor coordination.
- Technology Planning & Projects – Researches, evaluates, recommends, and implements infrastructure improvements, automation, technology standards, purchasing recommendations, and capital projects.
- Collaboration & Customer Service – Partners with departments, vendors, consultants, and managed service providers to deliver technology solutions and responsive support.
- Documentation & Continuous Improvement – Maintains documentation, asset inventories, configuration records, disaster recovery information, and recommends service improvements.
- Emergency Operations – Participates in business continuity, disaster recovery, after-hours maintenance, and emergency response.
- Contributes to a respectful and safe work environment by fostering a culture of positive communication and ethical behavior, with an emphasis on providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment, with travel to Town locations within for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of information technology equipment and systems
- Ability to
- push/pull/lift objects of up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally and sit for prolonged periods
- perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, such as keyboarding and equipment installation
- see objects closely as in reading and computer work
- hear normal sounds with background noise, distinguish voice patterns and communicate clearly with speech in person and by telephone
- attend to detail and concentrate for extended periods with interruptions; manage multiple assignments and understand complex concepts

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate degree from a recognized college or university in information technology, computer science, information systems, or a closely related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience administering enterprise information technology infrastructure, networks, cloud services, or related technologies;
or
- Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university in information technology, computer science, information systems, or a closely related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience administering enterprise information technology infrastructure, networks, cloud services, or related technologies.
- An equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience may be considered.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:
- Driver’s License
- Professional certifications in information technology infrastructure, networking, cloud computing, cybersecurity, virtualization, or related disciplines are strongly preferred. Examples include Microsoft Certified, CompTIA, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or equivalent industry-recognized certifications.
Skills Required
- Associate degree in IT, computer science, information systems, or related field and five years relevant experience; OR Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, information systems, or related field and two years relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience).
- Considerable knowledge of enterprise IT infrastructure (servers, storage, virtualization, cloud computing, operating systems, backup and recovery).
- Considerable knowledge of network administration (LAN/WAN, wireless, firewalls, VPN, network monitoring, telecommunications).
- Considerable knowledge of cybersecurity principles, identity and access management, endpoint security, vulnerability management, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
- Skilled in administering, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise infrastructure, network, security, and endpoint computing environments.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize multiple assignments and implement technology projects; strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Driver's License.
- Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform equipment installation tasks.
- Participation in after-hours maintenance, disaster recovery, and emergency response as needed.
- Professional IT certifications (Microsoft Certified, CompTIA, CCNA, VMware VCP, or equivalent) are strongly preferred.
