The Opportunity

To provide industrial safety expertise and leadership support to the site to ensure that appropriate industrial (conventional and process) safety arrangements are in place and effective in meeting company and regulatory expectations and delivering continuously improving performance.

As industrial safety subject matter expert, provide information, advice and direct support to line management in fulfilling their responsibilities for safety.

Pay, benefits and culture

The salary range associated with this role is £47,513 - £99,929. What you’ll be doing

  • You will be accountable for providing competent and proportionate industrial safety advice to line management and for supporting Industrial Safety strategy.
  • Liaise with the internal / external Regulator and other applicable external bodies on industrial safety matters.
  • Evaluate and report on compliance with legal and company / site industrial safety requirements.
  • Engage with Conventional Safety Branch as a key stakeholder in the revision or production of industrial safety standards or guidelines for company wide application.
  • Participate within the Industrial Safety Peer Group network in the development and implementation of fleet-wide continuous improvement initiatives and sharing of good practice.
  • Participate in and support the activities of the location HESAC.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Support effective risk management arrangements and providing competent advice (within their own competence).
  • Support the development of a positive safety culture and promotes greater safety awareness.
  • Monitor and reports industrial safety performance on behalf of the site, identifying and recommending proportionate arrangements to address emerging adverse trends.
  • Monitor and reports on compliance with, and effectiveness of, site industrial (conventional and process) safety management arrangements, making recommendations for improvement where necessary.
  • Support the investigation of events ensuring that root causes are effectively identified and addressed within the CAP process.
  • Advise on industrial safety training needs and supports effective delivery of training inputs where appropriate.
  • Promotes and maintains a positive industrial safety profile by spending time in the field.

Who you are

You will have -

NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent. Equivalents are Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) Level 3 qualification in Health and Safety or Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) level 6 in Health & Safety.

Must have (or be working towards) NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health & Safety

Management Professionals or equivalent. Equivalents are RQF level 5 or 6 qualification in Health & Safety or SCQF level 10 in Health & Safety.

It is desirable to have or be working towards Chartered Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH).

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of HSE regulatory framework, and UK safety legislation relevant to Nuclear Power Station Operations and site licence requirements.
  • Knowledge of key industrial safety hazards present within nuclear power stations and of applicable control measures to mitigate risks.
  • Detailed knowledge of company safety management system and associated industrial safety standards, specifications and guidelines in place to provide safe systems of working within the power station environment.
  • Knowledge of key processes, equipment systems and services used in nuclear power generation.
  • Proficient in the use of AMS, in particular viewing work order cards, action tracking, engineering change and controlled documents.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management / Document Management systems.
  • Knowledge of safety auditing & monitoring processes.
  • Ability to positively challenge and coach.
  • Desirable to have relevant experience within operational, engineering or associated disciplines within the nuclear sector or related industries.

Skills Required
