Hunton Trane, a division of Hunton Group, is seeking an experienced Industrial EPC Project Controls Lead to establish and lead the Project Controls function supporting large, complex capital projects exceeding $1 billion in total installed cost. This hands-on leadership role will develop and implement a scalable framework for cost control, planning and scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting, risk management, reporting, and project governance. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience with a major EPC organization and a proven ability to manage complex execution environments involving more than 50 active stakeholders, including EPC contractors, engineering firms, equipment suppliers, fabricators, construction contractors, and vendors. Responsibilities- Develop and implement a scalable Project Controls framework, including standards, systems, processes, reporting structures, and governance practices.
- Support capital planning, investment decisions, and project governance reviews.
- Manage project budgets and prepare monthly business forecasts.
- Work with the Project Management team to update timelines, task statuses, milestones, and dependencies as directed by project leadership.
- Analyze cost performance and identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Maintain project contingency management and drawdown tracking.
- Work with Hunton Industrial Engineering to develop and implement formal change management processes.
- Generate purchase orders based on approved scopes, requests, or direction from project teams.
- Coordinate with the Hunton Industrial Project Management team to support invoice review and approval workflows.
- Track purchase order and invoice status to support timely review, approval, and payment coordination.
- Develop client proposals supporting project change orders.
- Facilitate risk identification, quantification, mitigation, and reporting activities.
- Coordinate across Hunton's internal Engineering, Procurement, Project Management, and Construction teams on change management items.
- Ensure accurate reporting of project financial performance to executive leadership.
- Deliver clear and concise analyses of project performance, trends, risks, and forecasts.
- Present project controls insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing Project Controls team as the organization grows.
- Define roles, responsibilities, and competency requirements for future project controls personnel.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical leadership and coaching to project controls professionals.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 12–15 years of Project Controls experience supporting large capital projects.
- Minimum five years in a senior or lead Project Controls role.
- Experience with major EPC firms such as Bechtel, Fluor, KBR, Worley, Jacobs, or Technip.
- Direct experience on projects with capital values exceeding $1 billion.
- Demonstrated success managing project controls activities involving 50 or more vendors, suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Experience establishing project controls systems, processes, and governance frameworks from the ground up.
- Experience supporting projects through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup phases.
Within the first 12–18 months, the Project Controls Lead will be expected to:
- Establish the company's Project Controls framework and governance model.
- Implement standardized cost, schedule, risk, and reporting processes.
- Create integrated project controls systems supporting multiple large capital projects.
- Improve forecasting accuracy and project performance visibility.
- Build and lead a small, high-performing Project Controls team.
- Position the organization with project controls capabilities comparable to those found within leading global EPC organizations.
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Finance, Business, or related discipline
- 12-15 years of Project Controls experience supporting large capital projects
- Minimum five years in a senior or lead Project Controls role
- Direct experience on projects with capital values exceeding $1 billion
- Experience with major EPC firms (Bechtel, Fluor, KBR, Worley, Jacobs, Technip or similar)
- Demonstrated success managing project controls across 50+ vendors, suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders

- Experience supporting projects through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup phases
- Proven ability in cost control, planning and scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting, contingency management, and risk quantification
- Experience preparing forecasts, financial reporting to executive leadership, and producing change order proposals
