We are seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer to support the industrialization, design-to- manufacturability, and continuous improvement of electronic products with cellular (LTE/5G/NB-IoT, LoraWan, BLE/UWB) connectivity. This role bridges hardware engineering and manufacturing operations, ensuring that products are designed for efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective production while meeting performance and regulatory requirements for connected electronic devices.

The ideal candidate combines strong fundamentals in electronic components and hardware design with practical Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) expertise and is comfortable working cross-functionally with R&D, Purchasing, Quality, RMA and production teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • In direct communication with Production and HW + RF + automation engineering teams to apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to PCBAs, box-building and final production.

  • Review schematics, BOMs, and PCB layouts to identify manufacturability risks (component placement, tolerances, panelization, testability) early in the design cycle.

  • Lead Make/Buy analysis for components, subassemblies, tooling, and manufacturing processes, evaluating cost, quality, capacity, and lead-time trade-offs to guide sourcing and in-house production decisions.

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for SMT/THT assembly, box-build, and automated assembly lines, including equipment specification, line balancing, and throughput/process optimization.

  • Use industrial engineering line-design tools (layout/simulation software, cell-design methodology) to model and design the line, including U-shaped cell configurations for flexible, low-waste flow.

  • Deploy Manufacturing Execution System (MES) excellence practices on the line, real-time production tracking, OEE monitoring, digital work instructions, and full traceability, in partnership with MES teams.

  • Design and implement test fixtures and automated test procedures for functional test, RF test, and cellular connectivity validation (signal test, antenna tuning verification, conducted/radiated test fixtures).

  • Own End-of-Line testing and calibration procedures, ensuring functional, RF, and cellular connectivity performance is verified and calibrated prior to shipment.

  • Support to the automation developers and automation engineers and implement test fixtures and automated test procedures for functional test, RF test, and end-of-line quality checks.

  • Creates documentation for assembly and testing SOPs.

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for yield loss, defects, and field returns related to hardware or connectivity performance, together with the Quality Manager and RMA Responsible.

  • Collaborate with Purchasing department on component sourcing, second-source qualification, and obsolescence management for electronic components, in collaboration with the RD department.

  • Develop process documentation: work instructions, process flow diagrams, control plans, and FMEAs (Design FMEA and Process FMEA - Failure Modes and Effects Analysis).

  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities including PVT (Production Validation Test), pilot runs, and MP (Mass Production - production ramp).

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen) to reduce cost, cycle time, and defect rates.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards (IPC-A-610, FCC/CE/PTCRB certification requirements for cellular devices, RoHS/REACH).

  • Collaborate with contract manufacturers EMS/CM partners on process transfer, line setup, and ongoing production support.

     

    Sub-System Technical Fluency

            Not expected to design these sub-systems personally, but must be technically fluent enough to dialogue with, challenge, and discuss on cost and performance with suppliers and the EMS partners on:

  • Visual inspection systems (AOI, machine vision), coverage, false-call rates, and cost/performance trade-offs.

  • Pick-and-place equipment, placement accuracy, speed, and component range.

  • Stacking and handling systems, part presentation, and material flow.

  • Calibration systems, functional test sequencer, cycle time.

  • Test sequencers, test step architecture, parallelization.

  • Cycle time, line- and station-level cycle time analysis and its impact on takt time and capacity.


    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 3+ years of experience in industrial/manufacturing engineering for electronic products.

  • Solid understanding of electronic components: passives, semiconductors, connectors, cellular modules, antennas, and power management components.

  • Hands-on experience with DFM/DFA principles for PCB assemblies and mechanical enclosures.

  • Working knowledge of hardware design fundamentals, schematics, PCB layout considerations.

  • Mastery of the design tools industrial engineers use to define manufacturing lines, end to end.

  • Hands-on experience implementing Manufacturing Execution System (MES) excellence practices: OEE tracking, real-time production monitoring, digital work instructions, and traceability.

  • Experience with SMT assembly processes, reflow profiles, and inspection methods (AOI, X-ray, ICT).

  • Strong analytical skills with experience in root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone).


    Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with IoT/M2M product development and low-power wireless design considerations.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt certification.

  • Experience working directly with overseas EMS/CM partners.

  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality management systems (ISO 9001).

  • Scripting/data analysis skills (Python, SQL, or similar) for yield and process data analysis.

Responsibilities:
1) Process Design Engineering: Carry out a range of activities under the guidance of more senior colleagues to support the analysis of information and the specification of the methods and process steps, as well as the plant, machinery, and equipment, required to design and continuously improve manufacturing or materials processes and process systems.
2) Engineering Solutions Design: Contribute to the development of, and implement feasibility testing of, proposed engineering solutions to provide feedback and data to validate the design.
3) Engineering Standards Specification: Carry out a range of activities under the guidance of more senior colleagues to support the drafting of engineering standards and specifications and the evaluation of the effectiveness of those standards.
4) Engineering Inspections: Carry out inspections under the supervision of senior colleagues to evaluate the quality of engineering works and/or the integrity of existing installations or structures, and make recommendations to senior colleagues on the remedial works needed to ensure conformance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
5) Testing: Use product specifications to design test procedures and standards.
