Summary Generated by Built In

Arhaus was founded in 1986 on a simple idea: Furniture and décor should be sustainably sourced, lovingly made, and built to last. Today, we partner with artisans around the world who share our vision, creating beautiful, heirloom-quality pieces that can be used—and loved—for generations.

Reporting to the Senior Designer, the Mid-Level Designer will work closely with Senior Designers and cross-functional partners to support the design and product development strategy for Arhaus’ Furniture, Upholstery, Lighting and Hard Goods categories. This role is responsible for creating thoughtful, elevated, and commercially successful products that align with the Arhaus brand, customer needs, and our values.

With guidance from the Senior Design team, you will be creating innovative, high-quality designs within your assigned categories, supporting seasonal collections from concept until production. You will contribute to a collaborative, high-performing design culture while ensuring product execution meets our aesthetic, functional, commercial, and sustainability objectives.

As a Mid-Level Designer, you will support the creative identity of Arhaus, deliver against key milestones within the product development critical path, and build strong working relationships across Design, Product Development, Merchandising, and Sourcing to deliver a compelling, aspirational assortment that strengthens Arhaus’ position in the premium home furnishings market.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Senior Designers and the VP of Design to support the design and development of seasonal product collections aligned with the Arhaus brand and lifestyle vision
  • Contribute new design concepts, materials, finishes, and construction ideas at the start of each season, promoting innovation and thoughtful design solutions
  • Support the execution of the product design by attending in-country sample reviews (Far East, Europe, Domestic) and delivering on the spot problem-solving solutions that ensure key milestones and deadlines are consistently met
  • Partner closely with Product Development and Sourcing teams to ensure design intent is clearly communicated and executed to the highest standard, while meeting cost, margin, and quality targets
  • Assist in the development and execution of category-level ranging strategies, supporting both short- and long-term business goals
  • Prepare clear design presentations, technical drawings, and specification packages suitable for internal alignment and factory use
  • Support the evaluation of product performance and competitive landscape, contributing insights that inform future design decisions
  • Maintain strong awareness of market trends, competitor activity, materials, and emerging design directions within the home furnishings industry
  • Participate in seasonal line reviews, presentations, and internal cross-functional meetings
  • Support and mentor junior team members through collaboration, guidance, and constructive feedback
  • Contribute positively to a high-performing, collaborative team culture that encourages creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in product design and development within home furnishings, lighting, or related categories
  • Strong design sensibility with an understanding of both creative vision and commercial requirements
  • Skilled in communicating design ideas through sketches, CAD, technical drawings, and detailed specification packs
  • Experience in working directly with international and domestic suppliers to achieve quality execution within financial parameters
  • Willing and able to travel to the Far East, Europe and the Americas multiple times a year
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • A creative problem-solver with curiosity and confidence to challenge existing approaches and contribute fresh thinking
  • Collaborative by nature, with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive and dependable team member who takes initiative and supports the development of others
  • Analytical and results-oriented, with an interest in understanding product performance and customer needs
  • Adaptable and agile, with the ability to respond to evolving trends, priorities, and business demands

What We Do

Arhaus offers original handcrafted designs at 70 privately owned and operated store locations in the U.S. and online at arhaus.com. Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, we collaborate with skilled artisans from around the world to create (and recreate) pieces that reflect many cultures, from Italy to Indonesia. The end result is an eclectic mix of designs that are exclusive to our stores and arhaus.com.

Furnishing a Better World: This is the premise of the Arhaus design philosophy; it dates back to 1986 when the father and son John and Jack Reed opened the first store location in the historic Flats District downtown Cleveland and vowed never to use wood from the world’s endangered rainforests in the making of an Arhaus design. Today, nearly 50 percent the product assortment is made of recycled material—everything from glass, to metals like copper and reclaimed wood from buildings no longer standing and vessels no longer set sail. Timbers are either reclaimed or sustainably sourced.

A Port City Called Arhus: The Danish port city Århus (pronounced ohr-HOOSE) inspired the name. John came across Arhus on a map and took an immediate liking. After a few minor modifications, “Arhaus” represented the warmth and luxury of the then (and now) home furnishings offered.
