As our Industrial Design & Engineering Services Generalist, you'll be at the forefront of driving global engineering standards, evaluating cutting-edge technologies, and optimizing manufacturing systems across McCain's worldwide network.

What you'll be doing.
  • Serve as a global technical authority for industrial equipment, processing lines, and manufacturing system design across McCain's network.
  • Lead and govern global engineering standards and processes, including User Requirement Specifications, Engineering Equipment Specifications, Basis of Design, Commissioning, Qualification and Verification, Minimum Viable Line, and Start-Up Management.
  • Provide technical oversight for equipment selection, line architecture, hygienic design, automation, controls, utilities, and mass-flow design.
  • Support regional teams with advanced troubleshooting, structured root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex equipment and manufacturing performance issues.
  • Review and challenge technical deliverables, including P&IDs, functional design specifications, control philosophies, equipment layouts, and validation protocols.
  • Ensure capital projects and growth initiatives apply appropriate technologies, engineering best practices, food safety requirements, and human safety risk controls.
  • Develop engineering tools, frameworks, and methodologies that enable consistent equipment and line design decisions globally.
  • Evaluate and validate pilot and emerging technologies, maintain the manufacturing technology pipeline, and recommend solutions for future global standards.
  • Train and upskill engineering, technical, and operational teams on design intent, standards, start-up, and operational best practices.
  • Lead and develop a small global team of technical specialists while building trusted relationships with regional teams, functional leaders, and suppliers.

What you'll need to be successful.
  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science, or at least 10 years of equivalent relevant experience.
  • At least three years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food manufacturing, with experience in a technical, engineering, maintenance, or research and development role.
  • Deep expertise in industrial equipment and processing-line design, supported by strong mechanical, electrical, controls, and automation engineering aptitude.
  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing system design, including mass flow, utilities, hygienic zoning, reliability, and risk-based design.
  • Practical experience with engineering specifications, Basis of Design, Commissioning, Qualification and Verification, Start-Up Management, and validation methodologies.
  • The ability to interpret, govern, and challenge P&IDs, process-flow diagrams, control documentation, equipment specifications, and engineering drawings; proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design tools is preferred.
  • Experience in technology validation, pilot trials, performance benchmarking, standardisation, structured root-cause analysis, and data-driven decision-making.
  • A strong understanding of Food Safety & Quality requirements, human safety and risk management, and relevant external standards such as EHEDG, 3-A, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong business acumen, including the ability to balance technical excellence with cost, risk, schedule, lifecycle value, and operational practicality.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, collaboration, and knowledge-transfer skills, with the confidence to work across functions, regions, cultures, and organisational levels.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently through complex or ambiguous challenges, and travel internationally as required, up to 40%.
