Description

Habitat for Humanity of Dane County (Habitat Dane) is a nonprofit located in Madison, Wisconsin that helps families achieve strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership. We are seeking a passionate fundraising professional to join the Development Team as the Individual Giving Manager. They will play a key role in growing the individual giving program for the organization. 

The need for affordable housing in Dane County has never been greater, and neither has the opportunity in front of us. Habitat Dane plans to significantly increase the number of families we serve in the coming years, and this role is central to funding that growth. You'll inspire donors to become part of life-changing work. 

You'll be one of four people on the Development Team, reporting to the Vice President of Philanthropy, and you'll work closely with our Communications team, who create content that supports fundraising. As Habitat Dane grows, we expect opportunities for advancement — including into major gifts. 

What You Will Do 

Annual Fund and Legacy Giving 

  • Work with Development Team to implement individual giving strategies in alignment with annual calendar, budget goals, and the strategic plan. 
  • Drive execution of annual fundraising appeals, including summer appeal, year-end appeal, and any email-only appeals, working in close collaboration with Development Team and Communications. Appeals include direct mail, email, and social media. Liaison with print vendor.  
  • Grow the annual fund by promoting other ways to give, including employer matches, recurring giving, vehicle donations, donor-advised fund (DAF) gifts, qualified charitable distributions (QCDs), and gifts of stock and other non-cash assets.  
  • Expand legacy giving efforts and further define the program. Liaison for external partner FreeWill.  
  • Support individuals planning external peer-to-peer fundraising by providing content and coordinating any promotion with Communications. 
  • Support internal efforts to engage Habitat Dane staff in meeting individual giving goals and creating a culture of philanthropy. 

Donor Pipeline 

  • Build donor pipeline with a focus on acquisition and mid-level strategies. Work closely with VP of Philanthropy to improve pipeline to major gifts.  
  • Manage a portfolio of mid-level donors, building relationships through in-person meetings, email, and phone. 

Donor Stewardship and Cultivation 

  • Prioritize outstanding and personalized stewardship touchpoints for individual donors, creating enduring connections to Habitat Dane. 
  • Coordinate one-to-many donor stewardship efforts, including print donor newsletter and handwritten partner family notes. Collaborate with community services department on stewardship efforts involving partner families.  
  • Lead planning of development events, including donor appreciation events, block parties, and ground breakings. Support events planned by other departments, including Home Dedications. 
  • Represent Habitat Dane at community meetings and events. 

Systems and Documentation 

  • Use Virtuous (CRM) and Asana (task management) to manage your portfolio, track deadlines, assign tasks, and maintain accurate records. 

Requirements

What You Will Bring 

  • A strong connection to the mission of Habitat Dane. 
  • Three or more years of experience in nonprofit fundraising. 
  • Proven experience building relationships that lead to fundraising success. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the presence to represent the organization externally. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines and competing priorities. 
  • Comfort working both independently and collaboratively with diverse teams across the organization. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products. 
  • Proficiency with CRM databases, and a strong understanding of why thorough documentation matters. 
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license. 

Nice to have: Experience in affordable housing or community development or with another Habitat affiliate; strong connection to Dane County; familiarly with the nonprofit fundraising community in Dane County. 

Schedule and Location 

This is a hybrid role based in Madison, Wisconsin, with regular in-person presence at our office and at community events. The role includes occasional evening and weekend events scheduled in advance. Local travel around Dane County is a regular part of the job, with mileage reimbursed. 

Compensation and Benefits 

  • Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 annually
