What Tax contributes to Cardinal Health

Finance oversees the accounting, tax, financial plans and policies of the organization, establishes and maintains fiscal controls, prepares and interprets financial reports, oversees financial systems and safeguards the organization's assets.

Tax is responsible for the design, implementation and defense of tax strategies and positions. Records and reports tax expense in accordance with GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. Accountable for the tax due diligence of corporate transactions and preparation of tax compliance returns and reports.

  • Demonstrates knowledge in broad area of tax principles, planning strategies and concepts.
  • Develops and implements tax controversy strategies to address impact on all open years and impact on planned transactions.
  • Analyzes transactions for areas of tax risk and opportunities.
  • Demonstrates tax accounting knowledge of GAAP and SEC tax recording and reporting requirements.
  • Performs detailed tax research and analysis.
  • Develops approaches to detect, resolve and properly report issues and transactions on tax returns.
  • Partners with the business to improve tax efficiency of business planning and operations as well as tax compliance and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Manage US indirect tax compliance, including sales and use tax, property tax, gross receipts tax, and other transaction-based taxes, ensuring timely and accurate filings across jurisdictions.
  • Lead the development and implementation of internal controls and tax automation processes to streamline tax return preparation and improve operational efficiency.
  • Drive efficiencies in data gathering by partnering with IT and business stakeholders to identify and leverage tools that support accurate and timely information collection.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting indirect taxes and assess their impact on the business, ensuring compliance and recommending necessary adjustments.
  • Support audits and inquiries from tax authorities by preparing documentation, managing responses, and mitigating risk through proactive issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on business initiatives, system implementations, and process changes to ensure indirect tax considerations are addressed appropriately.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant tax experience, with a focus on U.S. indirect taxes (e.g., sales/use tax, property tax, gross receipts), preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in related field (Accounting, Finance), or equivalent work experience, preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. indirect tax laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions
  • Experience with tax calculation software (e.g., Vertex) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP)
  • Proven ability to manage compliance processes, audits, and cross-functional projects
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to interpret complex tax legislation and translate it into practical business guidance
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with data analytics tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI) is a plus

Anticipated salary range: $105,100-$150,100
