The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all activities within assigned manufacturing cells or functions during a designated shift. This role ensures the efficient utilization of equipment and manpower to meet production schedules, safety standards, and quality expectations. The supervisor acts as a coach and mentor to associates, fostering a high-performance, operator-led culture through Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise, coach, and mentor shop floor associates to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals.
- Foster a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.
- Lead daily production meetings and eventually empower associates to take ownership.
- Evaluate individual and team performance, providing feedback and development opportunities.
- Resolve conflicts professionally and consistently enforce company policies.
Production & Process Management
- Plan and coordinate work and production schedules using thorough knowledge of processes and equipment.
- Ensure availability of raw materials, machine readiness, and proper work instructions.
- Drive cost-saving and quality improvement initiatives using Lean tools (6S, Kanban, Visual Management, RTFT, Tier Communication).
- Evaluate associates for effectiveness, efficiency, the performance of safety practices, and following instructions and procedures to reduce scrap usage and waste.
- Back up the control room operator in their absence.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure a safe work environment and enforce safety protocols, including compliance with PPE requirements.
- Conduct safety audits and coach associates on hazard identification and reporting.
Administrative & Other
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, overtime, grievances, and performance.
- Approve timekeeping entries and manage shift handoffs.
- Assist in the creation and implementation of standard work procedures.
- Perform other tasks that are reasonable to the job as requested by the Plant Manager.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- High energy with a sense of urgency and adaptability in a high-performance manufacturing environment.
- Solid understanding of business principles and bottom-line impact.
- Must be able to manage multiple, complex tasks and deal easily with consistent pressure.
- Must be able to motivate, communicate, and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- 3 - 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong computer/troubleshooting skills.
- Lean Manufacturing Experience.
- Experience in team-based, continuous improvement environments preferred.
Education:
Preferred Associates/Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or relevant experience in a compounding facility.
