Position Overview

The Hartford is seeking an experienced Technical Business Analyst to lead business analysis and solution delivery across Property & Casualty insurance capabilities. This role requires deep P&C domain expertise, strong knowledge of the Duck Creek technology ecosystem, and the ability to translate complex business needs into scalable technology solutions.

The individual will partner with product owners, business leaders, architects, engineering teams, and external partners to drive initiatives across policy administration, product configuration, billing, and enterprise integrations. The role will own capabilities from business elicitation and prioritization through implementation, production adoption, and value realization.

The ideal candidate will combine business acumen, technical understanding, and delivery leadership to influence product roadmaps, optimize workflows using AI and automation, and ensure investments deliver measurable business outcomes. Exposure to Life Insurance and Employee Benefits will be valuable in supporting cross-business capabilities.

Business Analysis and Requirements Elicitation

  • Lead discovery sessions with business, product, operations, underwriting, billing, architecture, and technology stakeholders.

  • Define functional and non-functional requirements, including security, performance, integration, resiliency, auditability, and operational needs.
  • Identify requirement gaps, conflicting expectations, upstream and downstream dependencies, and delivery risks.
  • Maintain end-to-end traceability from business objectives through requirements, implementation, testing, and production outcomes.

  • Apply deep understanding of P&C insurance processes, including:
    • Product definition and configuration
    • Quoting, rating, and underwriting
    • Policy issuance and servicing
    • Endorsements and renewals
    • Cancellations and reinstatements
    • Billing plans, invoicing, payments, commissions, and receivables

  • Evaluate business requirements against Duck Creek base capabilities and recommend configuration-led solutions before customization.
  • Partner with Duck Creek architects and engineers to ensure solutions align with Duck Creek OnDemand architecture and platform standards.
  • Support Duck Creek cloud releases, feature evaluations, product upgrades, and capability-adoption planning.
  • Assess impacts across Policy, Billing, Insight, document generation, reporting, data, and external systems.

Product Ownership and Backlog Planning

  • Partner with product owners to define product vision, business capabilities, roadmaps, release plans, and measurable outcomes.

  • Facilitate backlog refinement, sprint planning, product demonstrations, acceptance activities, and retrospectives.
  • Ensure technical enablers, non-functional requirements, platform upgrades, and technical-debt items receive appropriate roadmap consideration.

AI-Driven Business Workflow Optimization

  • Analyse end-to-end workflows and identify opportunities for simplification, automation, and AI-enabled decision support.
  • Define AI-enabled use cases across underwriting, policy servicing, billing, customer service, document processing, and operational workflows.
  • Partner with AI, data, architecture, risk, and engineering teams to translate opportunities into implementable business capabilities.
  • Evaluate use cases based on business value, feasibility, data availability, process readiness, risk, and expected ROI.
  • Design workflows that incorporate appropriate human review, exception handling, auditability, explainability, and governance.
  • Define business measures for AI-enabled capabilities, including cycle-time reduction, productivity, accuracy, customer experience, and operational savings.

Enterprise Integration and Cloud Understanding

  • Define business and system requirements for integrations between Duck Creek and enterprise platforms.
  • Develop process flows, context diagrams, data mappings, interface requirements, and integration specifications.
  • Understand and contribute to API-led, event-driven, batch, and messaging-based integration designs.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of cloud infrastructure and components, including compute, storage, databases, networking, identity, API gateways, messaging, monitoring, and resiliency.
  • Ensure integration designs address traceability, security, scalability, recoverability, and production support.

End-to-End Delivery Ownership

  • Own assigned capabilities across Policy, Product, Billing, and integrations from concept through production adoption.
  • Coordinate across product, business, architecture, development, quality engineering, data, security, DevOps, and operations teams.
  • Drive requirement clarification and business decision-making throughout design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Support test strategy, business scenario definition, defect triage, user acceptance testing, release readiness, and production stabilization.
  • Validate that delivered solutions meet stated business objectives and drive corrective action where outcomes are not achieved.
  • Track post-implementation metrics and confirm realization of anticipated business value.

Stakeholder Leadership and Consulting

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to product owners, business leaders, and technology teams.
  • Communicate complex business and technical topics to executive, operational, and engineering audiences.
  • Facilitate decision-making when stakeholders have competing priorities or requirements.
  • Influence solution direction through domain expertise, data, business-value analysis, and structured recommendations.

  • Demonstrated ability to partner with product owners on backlog planning, refinement, release planning, and prioritization.
  • Experience advising business leaders on prioritization using ROI, customer value, risk, regulatory need, operational impact, and implementation effort.
  • Proven ownership of end-to-end delivery across policy administration, product configuration, billing, and enterprise integrations.
  • Experience defining requirements for REST APIs, event-driven integrations, messaging, batch processing, and enterprise data exchanges.
  • Working understanding of cloud infrastructure, security, networking, identity, databases, API management, monitoring, and resiliency.
