Summary
In our State & Local Income Tax Manager role, you will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary state tax consulting team helping clients with their most complex state income tax issues, including organizational structure optimization, identifying refund opportunities, developing and delivering technology solutions and general consulting matters. This is a part-time opportunity.
Essential Functions
- Assist multi-state companies with state and local income tax issues including advising, planning, structuring and controversies.
- Assist with state income/franchise tax return review engagements focused on identifying and securing state income tax refunds.
- Assist multi-state companies with state and local tax controversies which includes preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing the client at hearings and appeal meetings and preparing protests.
- Identify, sell and manage state income tax consulting projects (e.g., sales factor sourcing studies, nexus studies, P.L. 86-272 studies).
- Proactively follow and alert the Firm’s tax compliance practices of any state income tax developments that impact the Firm’s clients (e.g., PTET elections, newly adopted P.L. 86-272 interpretation).
- Develop state income tax workpapers with the assistance of existing state and local tax personnel for the Firm’s income tax compliance groups.
- Research state tax issues including nexus determinations, taxability analyses, apportionment methodology, unitary filings and quantification of potential liabilities.
- Prepare technical memoranda on state and local tax issues for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and LLCs.
- Maintain active communication with clients and make recommendations for business and process improvements, manage expectations, and enhance value.
- Assist with managing client engagement staffing and billings/collections.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team helping to provide relevant subject matter and industry knowledge and experience to internal and external clients.
Position Requirements
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance or other relevant degree program
+ JD is strongly preferred
+ CPA preferred in lieu of a JD
+ Five to twelve years of public accounting experience, preferred
+ Minimum two years previous supervisory experience
+ Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
+ Ability to multi-task with excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Must be able to meet assigned deadlines in a fast-paced, team environment
