Reporting to the Director of Publishing Operations Technology, we are seeking an Imprint Design Lead to support the design and production of our children's and middle-grade imprints.
The Imprint Design Lead plays a critical leadership role within our team, focusing on creative direction, cross-functional collaboration, and maintaining high design standards.
This position requires strong design expertise and collaborative skills to work effectively with various departments and ensure exceptional visual quality. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud and Macintosh OSX is essential as the lead will guide production design and resolve technical challenges.
This position can be hybrid in Naperville, IL or NYC, or fully remote in the following states ONLY: AZ, CT, LA, MA, MD, MN, NC, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, AND WI.
The salary range for this role is $60,000 to $70,000, with the final offer dependent on experience and qualifications.
Imprint Design Lead Responsibilities:
- Design Leadership: Guide the creation of internal templates, ensuring design aligns with brand standards and project requirements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Art Directors and editors, providing strategic art direction and facilitating creative decisions.
- Production Oversight: Oversee page production and resolve complex design issues, ensuring alignment with printer specifications.
- Workflow Optimization: Maintain and improve XML workflows, ensuring error-free production and preflight closures.
- Template Development: Innovate and maintain templates to streamline design processes and enhance visual consistency.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all books meet high design standards and are delivered accurately to printers.
What You Bring:
- Bachelors Degree in related field such as Publishing, Graphic Design, or Fine Arts.
- 3-5 years experience in Graphic Design, Publishing or a relevant field.
- Advanced skills in typography, Adobe Creative Cloud, and file preflight processes.
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to oversee complex design projects.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills for effective cross-departmental interactions.
- Experience with XML workflows and quality assurance in publishing environments.
- Creative problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to new design and industry trends.
