Overview

VSA Partners is hiring a Director, Content Experience, IA, Taxonomy (Freelance) to lead advanced information architecture and content experience across the full dot-com ecosystem of our world class global enterprise client. This senior, hands-on role focuses on structuring complex content systems, shaping navigation clarity, ensuring content quality, and defining the taxonomy and metadata frameworks that support a large-scale B2B environment.

You will collaborate closely with UX, UI, content strategy, research, engineering, information technology, QA, and product teams, as well as the enterprise search team, to ensure information is organized and delivered in ways that support findability, relevance, personalization, performance, accessibility, and long-term scalability. This role requires someone who can simplify complexity, communicate clearly with any audience, and operate as a cross-functional partner and technical backbone for the content ecosystem.

Experience Level

8+ years IA, content experience, or content architecture experience in enterprise B2B environments.

Responsibilities

IA Strategy and Architecture

  • Develop taxonomy, metadata models, labeling systems, navigation structures, and content organization frameworks for a global B2B dot com ecosystem.

  • Architect page, section, and system-level hierarchy to improve clarity and consistency across a large-scale site.

  • Support acquisitions, migrations, restructures, and major content shifts with clear information models.

  • Ensure structures support accessibility, findability, personalization, and global content scale.

  • Evaluate content, journeys, and navigation against business-established performance goals and user needs.

IA & Content Execution

  • Build and refine taxonomies, metadata standards, tagging frameworks, and structured content models.

  • Tag and structure content to strengthen search relevance, type-ahead performance, and system-wide retrieval.

  • Conduct audits of URLs, metadata, redirects, navigation pathways, content relationships, page-level content quality, and structural integrity.

  • Optimize content organization on pages and across sections using design system patterns, IA best practices, and personalization strategy.

  • Document IA standards, logic, and guidelines to guide cross-functional teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with the enterprise search team on taxonomy alignment, tagging standards, and relevance improvements.

  • Partner with UX research to integrate moderated testing, qualitative findings, and behavioral insights into IA and content decisions.

  • Collaborate with UX, UI, engineering, QA, content strategy, product owners, and analytics teams to ensure content and IA structures are implemented correctly.

  • Communicate content and IA rationale clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ensure consistent application of brand and content standards across experiences.

CMS and Enterprise Systems Integration

  • Translate IA frameworks into scalable execution within Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), including taxonomy, metadata configuration, content models, and Experience Fragments when applicable.

  • Work with content managers to ensure accurate and efficient component-based content production.

  • Identify structural or quality issues early and recommend sustainable solutions.

  • Maintain IA and content governance across teams, documentation, workflows, and releases.

Quality, Performance, and Optimization

  • Monitor content, structure, and navigation performance against business and experience goals.

  • Partner with QA teams to refine testing strategies as they relate to content structure, tagging, and navigation behavior.

  • Support evaluation and optimization of user journeys, local and global navigation, and content sequencing across the ecosystem.

  • Conduct competitive analysis to inform content and structural improvements when relevant.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Senior-level experience in information architecture, content experience, content strategy, taxonomy, or structured content systems.

  • Expertise in taxonomy development, metadata modeling, tagging systems, content hierarchy, and structured content logic.

  • Adobe Experience Manager experience, including component-based content creation and metadata/taxonomy workflows.

  • Experience collaborating with search, UX, engineering, QA, and analytics teams in enterprise environments.

  • Strong communication skills with ability to explain complex IA and content structures clearly.

  • Proven ability to evaluate site content, performance, and structure to recommend improvements.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, globally influenced environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with AEM Core Components and Experience Fragments.

  • Experience supporting enterprise search, personalization, and structured content retrieval.

  • Familiarity with schema markup, breadcrumb logic, sitemap structures, and enterprise content patterns.

  • Experience participating in design thinking workshops and large-scale discovery efforts.

  • Hands-on experience planning or supporting user research.

  • Experience in Agile environments.

What We Do

VSA is a hybrid brand strategy and design agency. We partner with business, strategic and creative leaders, combining our strategic consulting with design-driven experiences to solve business problems and realize the future of a brand. As a hybrid agency, we blend consumer insights and data with the craft of design to activate the most meaningful, motivating and measurable experiences. For VSA employees as well as those we recruit, we’ve adopted a long-term hybrid model that allows people to define their way of working in the way they want. This means that VSAers can work from anywhere in the United States—home, office or any place in between. Working from anywhere gives VSAers the option to find time to work alone, join others for office-based collaboration, or meet up as needed for small-group moments and client meetings. We’re also hiring with geographic “neutrality”—pursuing the best talent wherever it may live. We think having a workplace option matters most these days: Employees benefit from human interaction and the need for a change in scenery from time to time. And also, VSA benefits from a diversity of experiences and perspectives that come from seeing and participating in the larger world. All of which is why we see our offices in Chicago, New York and San Francisco as a flexible, accessible network of workspace hubs for employees to use as needed for work and interaction with colleagues.
