Job Responsibilities:

Scope of Position
  • The Machine Learning Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions that improve manufacturing operations, product quality, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency. This position works closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Controls Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, IT, and Operations to identify opportunities where AI technologies can provide measurable business value.
  • The successful candidate will design, develop, validate, and deploy predictive analytics, computer vision, and machine learning applications supporting Deco Automotive’s Industry 4.0 strategy
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering or related technical equivalent with 2-5 years working experience in the capacity of an Machine Learning Engineer
  • Experience developing production-ready machine learning models
  • Strong programming skills using Python
  • Experience with SQL databases and data analysis
  • Experience using machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch or Scikit-learn
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and predictive modeling
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes including robotics, welding, assembly or stamping is considered an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI or other visualization software
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (Azure or AWS) considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Industrial IoT, OPC-UA, PLC communications and manufacturing data systems is considered an asset
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to Magna divisions and suppliers
  • Ability to work overtime as required to support production requirements
Job Specific Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test and deploy machine learning models supporting manufacturing operations
  • Develop predictive maintenance models using production and equipment data
  • Create computer vision applications for automated weld quality inspection and defect detection
  • Analyze large manufacturing datasets to identify trends, root causes and opportunities for process improvement
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to improve welding, assembly and material handling processes using AI technologies
  • Work with Controls Engineers to integrate machine learning solutions into production equipment
  • Develop data pipelines to collect, clean and organize manufacturing data
  • Support Industry 4.0 initiatives including connected equipment, smart sensors and digital manufacturing
  • Build dashboards and reporting tools to communicate AI model performance and manufacturing KPIs
  • Monitor deployed machine learning models and retrain as necessary to maintain accuracy
  • Document software, algorithms and validation activities in accordance with company standards
  • Participate in equipment commissioning and validation activities where AI solutions are deployed
  • Support root cause investigations through advanced statistical and machine learning techniques
  • Work with Quality Engineers to improve First Time Quality (FTQ), reduce scrap and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
  • Support implementation of predictive quality systems and anomaly detection solutions
  • Collaborate with Magna divisions to share AI best practices and standardized solutions
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary manufacturing data and intellectual property
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Ensure all work complies with Deco Automotive quality standards and customer requirements
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Performed all other duties as requested
General Responsibilities
  • Accepts personal responsibility to plan and conduct work safely in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and all company policies and procedures
  • Ensures automation equipment is designed and commissioned in accordance with applicable safety standards, including CSA, ANSI, and ISO requirements
  • Supports risk assessments, machine guarding reviews, and Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSHSR)
  • Understands, promotes, and lives Magna’s Employee Charter and Corporate Constitution
  • Reports hazards and participates in continuous safety improvement activities
  • Maintains good housekeeping in assigned work areas
