Hydrologist
KCC seeks a highly qualified Hydrologist to join the Model Development Team to work on developing advanced catastrophe reference models. In this position, you will work closely with other scientists and engineers to develop numerical representations of inland flooding and coastal flooding impacts and conduct analyses of historical and real-time flood events.
Responsibilities
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to develop the technical aspects of flood hazard and impacts models
• Research regional natural and manmade hydrological aspects that can lead to flooding events
• Compile related literature and datasets required for model development
• Conduct model sensitivity and validation tests
• Provide documentation for technical publications
• Conduct post disaster field surveys after major events
Qualifications
• PhD with background in hydrology and/or hydraulics, with research relevant to flood inundation modeling
• Experience with model setup, calibration, and validation
• In-depth knowledge of and skills in probability and statistical methods
• Experience with GIS tools, such as ArcGIS or QGIS
• Experience with numerical modeling and computer programming such as Python, FORTRAN, R, C#, and/or others
• Excellent presentation and communication skills
• Experience programming using Arcpy and geospatial tools is a plus
