Job DescriptionPosition Summary & Objective
The Hydraulic Engineer I is accountable for the hydraulic design and performance of hydro turbine equipment. This position is accountable for the development of cost-effective custom equipment designs at the proposal stage and achievement of the budgeted costs at the final design stage.
Essential Functions Performed by the Position

- Responsible for the hydraulic design and layout of custom hydro-turbine equipment. Prepares and analyzes hydraulic designs using CFD methods.
- Participates in model or field testing to confirm hydraulic performance.
- Serve as the technical lead on low complexity projects with support from experienced engineers.
- Support Hydraulic Engineering Proposal Manager with proposal engineering, including interface with Sales and Marketing, proposal preparation and technical presentations to customers.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of hydraulic engineering computer software
- Assist in the development and maintenance of hydraulic engineering standards for product design and manufacture
- Occasional preparation of technical papers and presentations at major conferences
- Work under the direction of experienced engineers on complex and demanding projects.
- Conduct internal design reviews with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Support additional project requirements as needed for Project Management, Proposals, Procurement, Operations, and Field Service departments.
- Coordinate with Operations and Field Service departments to resolve technical problems that arise during manufacture or installation of equipment.
- Perform after-market field testing and troubleshooting of turbine installations under the direction of experienced engineers.
- Satisfy ISO Quality Standards as it relates to the design function
Development Responsibilities
- Development of hydraulic analysis tools or methods as directed by Manager of Hydraulic Engineering
Authorities
- Approval of shop and field non-conformances and disposition of non-conformances with input from experienced engineers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Proficient with CAD software
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering
- 0-3 years’ experience required
