GENERAL DESCRIPTION – PURPOSE OF ROLE:

The Lead Hydraulic Technician is a highly skilled technical leader responsible for overseeing the building, testing, and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems, as well as the manufacturing of hydraulic components using machining equipment. This role combines advanced expertise in fluid power systems with leadership responsibilities, including guiding and supporting technicians, ensuring production efficiency, and maintaining high-quality standards. The Lead Hydraulic Technician ensures all systems meet exact specifications while driving continuous improvement, safety, and team performance.

Essential Functions:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of hydraulic technicians, providing guidance, training, and technical support.
  • Build, test, and calibrate hydraulic systems to meet pressure, flow, and performance specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hydraulic issues using schematics, diagnostic tools, and advanced technical knowledge.
  • Oversee and, when needed, operate manual and/or CNC machines to produce or modify hydraulic components and fittings.
  • Review and interpret hydraulic drawings, technical blueprints, and machining instructions for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure proper assembly of hoses, fittings, and lines in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
  • Perform and verify system pressure checks, flushes, and leak tests.
  • Monitor product quality to ensure all components meet dimensional accuracy and performance requirements.
  • Support production planning by prioritizing work, coordinating workflow, and meeting deadlines.
  • Promote and enforce safety standards, maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant work environment.
  • Identify process improvements and assist in implementing efficiency and quality enhancements.

RequirementsQualifications and Experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 4–7 years of experience working with hydraulic systems, including assembly, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience in a production or shop environment preferred.
  • Extensive experience operating lathes, mills, and/or CNC machines is strongly preferred.

  • Possess advanced knowledge of hydraulic theory, components, and system functionality.
  • Be able to operate machining equipment and ensure parts meet precise tolerances and specifications.
  • Read, interpret, and validate hydraulic schematics, blueprints, and machining diagrams.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude, including diagnosing complex system issues.
  • Be highly detail-oriented with a commitment to quality control and continuous improvement.
  • Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) accurately and consistently.
  • Exhibit the ability to lead, train, and support team members, fostering skill development and accountability.
  • Effectively prioritize work, manage time, and coordinate team workflow to meet production deadlines.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with team members, supervisors, and cross-functional partners.
