The Role
Job Description SummaryFor Grid Solutions, Offshore HVDC represents a key differentiating technology and a central focus for the business, particularly in Europe where Transmission System Operators have very ambitious renewable energy targets. In that context, Grid Solutions is partnering with TSOs, which plan to invest more than $30B by 2030 in deploying new HVDC converter stations to bring Offshore Wind energy into Germany and the Netherlands.
In this context, Grid Solutions is looking for a HVDC Project Manager who will oversee packages part of a portfolio of several mega HVDC projects in Germany (contracts value > $1B) with main focus initially on Program Operations to ensure contract requirements are met in terms of PMO & Phase Planning activities: coordinating the opening and closing of the Project Phases for the various projects in the allocated portfolio.
The HVDC Project Manager will be responsible for her/his project/work package on-time delivery, profit & loss accountability, and customer satisfaction through management of project related activities and resources. She/He will provide leadership to strategically manage scope & changes, risks & opportunities, and report technically interface status to the Senior Management. He / She ensures that the project/work package follows high standards in terms of quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Job Description
  • Manage the Execution phase for a work-package of one mega HVDC Project in Germany > 1B$
  • This project management role will be focusing initially on Program Operations, in particular Phase Planning activities: coordinating the opening and closing of the Project Phases for the various projects in the allocated portfolio.
    • Align with Document Control team the establishment of the Master Document Register meeting all contractual requirements
    • Coordination with the various project functions (engineering, procurement, construction, PM, Planning etc.) to organize the opening and closing workshops with customer
    • Follow-up progress of each phase to ensure timely achievement of payment milestones
    • Support with the Systems Engineering Team and the Document owners the project requirements mapping
    • Coordinate with Systems Engineering Team the progress on the Verification Plans/Verification Reports
  • Deliver on Environmental Health & Safety (‘EHS’), On-Time-Delivery (‘OTD’) and financial objectives (sales, margin, billing, cash) for the GE scope.
  • Participate to  Project Reviews governance in line GE Grid Solutions Operating rhythm with a key focus on Risks Management and related mitigation plans.
  • Lead & coach a multi-cultural cross-functional project team composed of Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Project Controls (cost & planning), Finance, Contract Management
  • Support Change Management process through Technical Queries process 
  • Communication: represents GE towards the customer; controls and manages this interface and relationship. Manages the internal and external communication loop and relevant stakeholders, e.g. different GE functional units. Coordinate with consortium partner
  • Project Organization: Sets up and secures the necessary resources for the execution of the project/work package. Support the organization of the project team.
  • Performance Management: Constantly monitors and if requested reports the necessary key performances indicators (KPI). Takes immediately all necessary actions and decisions to guarantee financial, time, quality and safety performance to maximize project goals achievements.
  • Support Project Planning: align the various opening / closing of project phases with the Master Time Schedule to ensure timely completion of the Project
  • Support exercise commercial and finance controls during the execution of the project with regular reporting and forecasting of project metrics and KPIs

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college. Preferably a technical degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years in project management of large and complex projects (+$100M minimum)

  • Excellent communication & cooperation skills, you are willing to have fun and deliver as member of a dynamic team of passionate project professionals from all backgrounds
  • Ability to lead an international team (20+ members) and manage stakeholders in a matrix organization.
  • Ability to create trustworthy & lasting relationship with customers
  • Superior interpersonal skills, embodying GE leadership behaviors: Humility, Focus, Transparency
  • Superior skills covering the full project management cycle: integration management, planning, cost control, procurement, risk management, contract management, construction management…
  • Technical knowledge in High Voltage electrical grids and ideally power electronics / HVDC will be an advantage
  • Experience in offshore projects will be an advantage
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Fluent in English, German is an advantage
  • Experience in Systems Engineering is an advantage
