We are seeking a Human Resources Manager to join our team! The HR Manager collaborates with the Regional HR Manager to support staff and management within their region. This role involves managing a wide range of HR functions, including employee engagement, performance management, policy compliance, and talent management. The HR Manager fosters a positive workplace culture, helps with onboarding and employee relations, and ensures smooth operations throughout the employee life cycle. Strong relationship-building and adaptability to changes in practices and policies are key to success in this role.

The role is hybrid, 3 days in office at Willis Tower and 2 days remote.

WHAT You'll DO:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for staff and managers, providing guidance on employee engagement, performance management, job descriptions, and organizational development.
  • Support onboarding, policy communication, and compliance with HR regulations.
  • Foster positive relationships across teams, manage new hire orientations, oversee offboarding processes, and address employee relations matters.
  • Support performance reviews and assist with job descriptions and role requisitions.
  • Manage HRIS onboarding, track new hire paperwork, ensure I-9 and work authorization compliance, and oversee staff status changes.
  • Organize employee appreciation events and maintain compliance with labor posting requirements. Participate in special projects, support diversity initiatives, and contribute to the development of junior HR staff as needed.

WHAT You’ll NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field OR equivalent related experience.
  • 4 years’ of experience in Progressive complex and broad-based Human Resources experience to include: Employee relations, performance management, or similar experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting and credible relationships with staff and managers.
  • Demonstrated success in handling employee relations matters.
  • Ability to use good judgment and decision making skills independently in order to solve problems.
  • Experience in coaching and training staff and managers.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and security of data while ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws.
  • Knowledge of employment laws.
  • Strong technical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in using a computer and MS Office software including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with HRIS systems a plus.
  • Active listening skills, excellent reading comprehension and writing skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Strong customer service approach and ability and willingness to take ownership for solving problems.

  • Preference for working in organizations that place priority on teamwork and collaboration. Ability and willingness to travel and work beyond normal work hours, as needed.

Compensation: Competitive nonprofit compensation, based on experience, plus a generous benefits package. Compensation ranges for each position are based on local market rates and will be determined by geography, role, and experience.  Salary range for Chicago, IL: $93,100 - $131,257.36
