The Role
The HR Generalist role will report directly to the Senior Global Manager of Human Resources. You will be responsible for implementing an overall employee experience that allows 8th Lights to thrive from day one! This critical role is integral to our People Strategy; you’ll be connecting with employees around the globe, providing world-class service and support.
As the HR Generalist, you will be a key player in shaping an exceptional employee experience. You will manage policies and procedures, oversee various types of leaves and HR workflows, and handle onboarding and offboarding. You'll also ensure our HR systems and documentation are always up-to-date. Beyond the day-to-day, you'll actively support ongoing HR initiatives in the areas of employee engagement, talent management, and employee relations. You'll also play a crucial role in fostering a strong sense of community and connection among our team members. 8th Light is a remote-first company. This role will be based in the US; there is a strong preference for the Chicagoland Area (Chicago, IL).
Who you are
In support of our culture and in alignment with our People Strategy, we are seeking a full-time Human Resources Generalist to support the HR function for all our global employees. To do so effectively:
- You have 3 - 7 years of experience in human resources with a broad set of skills in managing various workflows across the employee lifecycle, from onboarding to offboarding and various processes in-between such as leave management. You will have experience in managing and maintaining HR information systems/tools, administering policies and procedures, employment law, and supporting employee relations. You’ll have strong experience administering benefits and compensation programs.
- You’re proficient and comfortable navigating US labor law, with experience of multiple states, and capable of acting as a subject matter expert in this area.
- You're proficient in using technology to analyze data and derive insights to inform people operations processes and offerings. You’re confident in utilizing Google Sheets and have the ability to segment and filter data, perform V-lookups, index matches, and create pivot tables.
- You have excellent relationship building skills, trusty-worthy and focused on cultivating relationships with exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- You’re a proactive problem solver with a goal oriented approach. You have supported and/or championed team Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) or Objective Key Results (OKRs).
- You have experience successfully cultivating an exceptional employee experience, along with a proven record of actively supporting DEI&B affinity groups and initiatives with an empathetic approach.
- Must be comfortable and have experience working in a dynamic, quick-moving environment. You are comfortable being resourceful, raising issues quickly while placing a high value on moving forward together, creating allies and strategic partners.
- Able to operate with a high level of business acumen including timely and confidential communication with diligence and understanding of urgent matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience within the tech industry is strongly desirable.
- International experience is a plus. A proactive attitude and openness to learning about global practices will also be key to success in this role.
- Certification as an HR Professional is strongly encouraged.
What you’ll do:
- Act as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries, delivering exceptional customer service. Escalate complex or high-risk queries to the appropriate channels for resolution.
- Act as an internal consultant, serving as a subject matter expert that can provide guidance on how to manage US processes and policies in keeping with US labor laws and regulations.
- Conduct HR reporting where data is analyzed and insights are derived as it relates to people operations.
- Collaborate to enhance internal HR documentation and streamline processes, ensuring clarity, efficiency, and compliance throughout the organization.
- Manage the seamless administration of HR processes for all employees worldwide, ensuring a smooth journey from onboarding to offboarding and everything in between.
- Manage the administration of various types of leave, ensuring compliance and staying ahead of all related matters while providing a supportive service for employees.
- Manage employee change management tasks, including leave management, relocations, promotions, talent review processes, and compensation or talent changes.
- Manages low risk employee relations cases, seeking to achieve a mutually beneficial outcome where each employee feels respected, heard, seen, and safe. You’ll support
employee relation cases outside of this scope by note-taking and acting as a witness. - Partner with the Finance department to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing by delivering necessary updates and information.
- Manage the platform we use to administer equipment, coordinate repairs and retrieve equipment.
- Maintain system hygiene across various HR tools, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, compliance with relevant regulations, and accurate permission scope.
- Implement and enforce measures to safeguard sensitive HR information and maintain data confidentiality.
- Oversee the creation, organization, and maintenance of employee records and workflows, ensuring processes are conducted as automated as possible with the highest degree of accuracy and completeness.
- Own benefits administration, including open enrollment, managing the end-to-end administration of benefits, ensuring accuracy and timely service.
- Support various HR projects such as in the area of employee engagement and talent management. Partnering with key stakeholders to deliver a timely effective and efficient service.
- Submit local, state, and federal reports in a complete and timely manner in order to ensure compliance.
- Take a proactive approach in identifying potential compliance risks and addressing them preemptively while monitoring changes in labor laws and promptly implement updates as required i.e. labor law posters, internal information/documentation, etc.
Compensation: The salary range for the role depending on years of experience and geo-location will range from $65,000- 85,000
