About AbacusAbacus is a progressive financial planning firm devoted to helping people expand what’s possible with money. We’re a 100% employee-owned, B Corp-certified RIA built on the belief that how you make money matters as much as how much you make. We work hard here and care deeply - about our clients, about each other, and about building a firm that reflects our values all the way through. We trust our people completely: flexible schedules, generous family leave, and the autonomy to do their best work from wherever they are. If that’s the kind of place you’ve been looking for, you belong with us.
The RoleAs our HR Generalist, you’ll ensure HR processes and workflows are smooth and efficient by assessing and identifying opportunities to improve them. With a strong customer service approach and a keen eye for all the details, you’ll support both internal department and company-wide initiatives. The ideal candidate is a strong collaborator, who is internally motivated to initiate action and deeply cares about culture and the employment experience.
What You’ll DoRecruitment - Candidates and interviewers experience a white-glove hiring process that attracts top talent and positions new employment relationships for a great start.- Own the full hiring cycle, partnering with hiring managers to define role needs, screening applications, scheduling interviews, coordinating background checks, and keeping everyone informed from first hello to offer accepted.
- Own our recruitment and hiring process flows, keeping them clear, current, and efficient, and make hiring recommendations to the Director and hiring managers.
- Own onboarding and new hire orientation, making sure everyone has the tools, access, and information they need to hit the ground running.
- Own offboarding, from resignation correspondence through final documentation, so every departure is handled smoothly and respectfully.
- Schedule and track training courses and manage the company Training Calendar.
- Support performance management and development cycles by tracking timelines, preparing materials, and following up on next steps.
- Prepare and process HR documentation, including comp changes, org charts updates, employment verifications, and leave communications and administration, keeping every record accurate, confidential, and on time.
- Keep the employee handbook current and address benefits questions.
- Coordinate HR projects, such as process improvement, running employee surveys, and supporting organizational change management.
- Bring your design eye to internal slide decks (a well-placed GIF goes a long way).
- Own HR compliance training, scheduling sessions, tracking completion, and following up so every employee stays current.
- Track compliance deadlines and requirements so nothing slips.
- Stays on top of legal updates.
- Own our Abaversary Program, making sure every employee’s work anniversary is recognized and celebrated.

- Hands-on recruiting: You’ve owned the hiring process from start to finish, from posting roles and screening applicants to scheduling interviews, making recommendations, and keeping candidates and hiring managers informed.
- HR documentation: You’ve prepared HR records such as offer letters, comp changes, verifications and offboarding documents, and you keep data accurate down to the last detail.
- Sound judgment: You treat confidential information with discretion and know which issues you can handle yourself and which should involve the Director of HR.
- Tech fluency: Comfortable on a Mac and in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms), and easily pick up new tools like Trello, Zoom, Absorb, and JazzHR.
- People skills & high EQ: You listen deeply, write professional, clear and warm emails, bring a customer-service mindset, and stay calm when curveballs arrive.
- Organized and improvement-minded: You juggle competing priorities without dropping the ball, keep projects on task, welcome feedback, and tactfully call out (and fix) process gaps.
- Values alignment: You understand and appreciate our Core Values.
