Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
Position: Full-Time
Starting Pay: $17.00 per hour

Progressive Directions, Inc. (PDI) is seeking an organized, dependable, and motivated HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team at our Corporate Office in Clarksville, Tennessee. 

A large portion of this position is focused on recruiting and onboarding, so we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with candidates, helping new employees through the hiring process, and finding ways to make recruiting and onboarding more organized, efficient, and effective. The remainder of the position will assist the Vice President of Human Resources with general HR responsibilities, employee-related matters, special projects, and other departmental needs.

This position is a great fit for someone who takes ownership of their work, brings new ideas to the table, and wants to help make our HR team even stronger. 

Primary Responsibilities:Recruiting & Onboarding
  • Work closely with managers to understand staffing needs and help fill vacancies.
  • Manage job postings and recruiting activities for assigned positions.
  • Review applications and identify qualified candidates.
  • Conduct candidate phone screenings and assist with interviews.
  • Communicate regularly with candidates throughout the hiring process.
  • Coordinate interviews with managers and department leadership.
  • Prepare and process employment offers and new-hire documentation.
  • Initiate and track pre-employment drug screenings.
  • Complete and track required background checks, registry checks, reference checks, and other pre-employment requirements.
  • Ensure all required hiring documentation is complete before employees are cleared to begin work.
  • Complete I-9 and E-Verify requirements.
  • Coordinate new-hire orientation and communicate orientation information to new employees and supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate applicant and new-hire information within PDI's HR systems.
  • Follow up promptly on missing documentation or outstanding pre-employment requirements.
  • Maintain recruiting and vacancy tracking information.
  • Participate in job fairs, recruiting events, and community outreach opportunities as needed.
  • Develop and explore new recruiting sources and strategies to improve candidate flow.
  • Look for ways to continuously improve and streamline PDI's recruiting and onboarding processes.

Because PDI provides services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the hiring process includes specific background, registry, and employment requirements that must be completed and documented accurately.

General Human Resources Support:

In addition to recruiting and onboarding, the HR Generalist will assist the Vice President of Human Resources with duties that may include:

  • Asist with maintaining employee personnel records and HR documentation.
  • Supporting HR audits and compliance activities.
  • Entering and maintaining accurate employee information within HR systems.
  • Assisting with HR projects, policy implementation, and departmental initiatives.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve HR processes and administrative efficiency.
  • Providing administrative and operational support to the Vice President of Human Resources.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of employee, applicant, and organizational information.
  • Performing other HR-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who loves recruiting, enjoys onboarding new employees, and takes pride in keeping the hiring process moving. This position requires someone who does not need to be constantly reminded about deadlines or follow-up. The right person will be comfortable managing multiple priorities, working independently, solving problems, and asking questions when needed.

  • Handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Be willing and able to travel to other PDI office locations in Clarksville, Dover, and Buchanan as needed.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Previous experience in Human Resources, recruiting, onboarding, or a closely related administrative role is required.
  • Hands-on experience managing recruiting and onboarding processes is strongly preferred.
  • Experience recruiting for multiple positions at the same time is preferred.
  • Knowledge of general HR practices and employment processes.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field is a plus, but not required.

As a Tennessee DDA provider, PDI requires employees to meet applicable state and agency employment requirements. Candidates must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid unrestricted drivers license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Successfully complete required criminal background checks.
  • Successfully complete all required registry and exclusion checks.
  • Provide required employment history and references.
  • Complete all required pre-employment documentation before beginning employment.
  • Continue to meet applicable PDI and DDA employment requirements throughout employment.
