Texas A&M University–Central Texas is recruiting for a Human Resources Generalist. This position may be filled at either the Human Resources Generalist I or Human Resources Generalist II level, based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
The Human Resources Generalist I, under general supervision, provides moderately complex Human Resources support.
The Human Resources Generalist II, under general supervision, provides routine and moderately complex human resources functions, such as creates, posts, and processes actions in the HRIS System or related systems, while assisting supervisors and employees with HR-related questions.
A Presidential Proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on all new H‑1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025, and Texas A&M University–Central Texas will not pay this fee. Additionally, a moratorium issued by Governor Abbott on January 27, 2026, restricts the filing of new H‑1B petitions unless approved by the Texas Workforce Commission. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Human Resources Generalist I
Identifies and screens applications for minimum requirements. Works with departments through the recruitment and hiring process.
Assists hiring managers with offers of employment, may assist in creating offer letters, ensuring selected candidates meet minimum qualifications for positions. Assists in ensuring appropriate compensation.
Performs credential verifications, background screenings, and verifies documentation for employment.
Maintains employee records and ensures compliance with the state records retention process. Maintains accurate employment files and ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Assists supervisors and employees with HR-related questions.
Maintains the name badge order database, places and picks up orders from the vendor.
Purchases supplies for the office and office events.
Assists new-hire employees with paperwork completion and orientation.
Maintains and updates the University Organization Chart.
Provides recruitment training and assigns search committees.
Distributes and monitors surveys to employees from HR.
Attends recruiting events and job fairs.
Human Resources Generalist II
Creates, posts, and processes actions in the HRIS System or related systems. Primary duties include the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
Reviews and assists hiring managers with offer of employment, may assist in creating offer letters, ensuring selected candidates meet minimum qualifications for positions. Reviews and approves appropriate compensation.
Oversees jobs postings and advertising for Part time staff and faculty positions. Identifies and screens applications for minimum requirements. Works with departments through the entire recruitment and hiring process and oversees background and credential verification process.
May coordinate routine and some complex human resource functions.
Serves as the Records Retention Coordinator. Coordinates and maintains personnel records and recruitment files and ensures the accuracy of employment files and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Audits recruitment and personnel files.
Collaborate with Career and Professional Development (CPD) to implement hiring standards for student employees. Facilitates training sessions with CPD for supervisors on using the student job posting platform. Monitors and tracks student job postings, providing feedback to departments to ensure accuracy and compliance. Creates offer letters for all student workers
Onboards and creates pseudo’ accounts needed for departments when hiring volunteer’s interns or VA work study student workers.
Investigates human resources errors and recommends appropriate corrective action.
Represents the university by serving on internal and system wide committees.
Prepares, reviews, and analyzes human resources and/or payroll documents for approval. Audits human resources documents as necessary.
Trains employees and staff on various HR topics and HR related software (Workday, SingleSignOn). Conducts the New Employee Orientation for new hires on a bi-weekly basis (staff rotation on conducting the orientation).
-Works with student employees who are foreign nationals who require work authorization documents and verifying work eligibility.
Assists in the Wellness Program events as needed.
Assists supervisors and employees with HR-related questions. Partners with managers to understand the department’s current and future HR challenges and assists in identifying HR needs and opportunities for improvement.
Provides guidance to departments regarding HR and payroll practices, compliance, laws, regulations, and ethics. Effectively communicates HR and payroll programs, practices, and policies to employees.
Assists international services, student employment, and graduate school on questions and requests. Serves as a liaison in student employment matters.
Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and university rules, regulations, and standard administrative procedures that govern employment.
Prepares routine and some complex human resources and/or payroll reports. Conducts studies regarding human resources and/or payroll needs and problems and may recommend actions. Coordinates the collection and dissemination of survey results.
May coordinate, plan, and provide logistical support for events and programs.
May assists and/or serve as a resource for other departments, colleges, and/or divisions on human resources and/or general payroll functions.
May cross train on specialized human resource functions in an assigned area, such as benefits, classification and compensation, employee relations, immigration, leave, payroll, performance evaluation/management, organization development, recognition/rewards, and workers’ compensation.
Collaborates with department on updates to processes, services, and programs. Attends human resources trainings and/or informational meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Human Resources Generalist I
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Human Resources Generalist II
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of related experience.
Wage:
Human Resources Generalist I: $17.00 per hour
Human Resources Generalist II: $19.57 per hour
Hours: Monday - Friday: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Supervision of Others: This position does not supervise employees.
Work Location: This is not a remote position. The selected candidate will be required to work on campus.
