The Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading all human resources functions within the community while serving as a strategic business partner to the Executive Director and Corporate Human Resources. This position provides leadership in employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, payroll administration, benefits, training, compliance, performance management, and employee engagement.

The Director of Human Resources promotes a positive workplace culture by providing exceptional service to employees and leaders while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws. This position exercises independent judgment and discretion in the administration of Human Resources programs and employment-related matters and is expected to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Essential Job Duties:

(Other duties will be assigned as needed.) Must be willing and able to perform the following:

· Serve as the primary Human Resources business partner to the Executive Director and department leaders on all employee-related matters.

· Lead all employee relations activities including coaching, conflict resolution, investigations, corrective action, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives.

· Conduct prompt, fair, and thorough workplace investigations while maintaining confidentiality and appropriate documentation.

· Manage full-cycle recruitment including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, orientation, and retention strategies.

· Partner with department leaders to develop staffing plans and support workforce planning initiatives.

· Facilitate new hire orientation and ensure compliance with all onboarding requirements.

· Oversee payroll processing in partnership with Corporate Payroll, ensuring accuracy of timekeeping, pay practices, and employee records within Paylocity.

· Administer employee benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, ICHRA, 401(k), leaves of absence, and employee benefit education.

· Coordinate and manage workers' compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and modified duty assignments.

· Ensure compliance with California employment laws including wage and hour

requirements, meal and rest periods, FEHA, ADA, CFRA, FMLA, PDL, PAGA, OSHA, and other applicable employment regulations.

· Maintain all personnel records, I-9 documentation, licensing records, training files, and HR documentation in accordance with legal and company requirements.

· Lead employee recognition, engagement, retention, and culture-building initiatives that support employee satisfaction and organizational success.

· Provide coaching and leadership development to department managers on performance management, documentation, employment law, interviewing, and employee development.

· Assist department leaders with annual performance evaluations, succession planning, and employee development planning.

· Monitor turnover, retention, overtime, and other workforce metrics while recommending process improvements.

· Support regulatory surveys, audits, and compliance reviews by maintaining accurate documentation and responding to requests as needed.

· Maintain confidentiality of all employee, resident, financial, and organizational information.

· Develop and maintain positive working relationships with employees, residents, families, vendors, and regulatory agencies.

· Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, respect, and excellent customer service throughout the community.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements


QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field preferred.

· Minimum of five (5) years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience required; senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or service industry experience preferred.

· Professional certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR preferred.

· Thorough knowledge of California employment laws and Human Resources best practices.

· Demonstrated experience managing employee relations, workplace investigations, performance management, payroll, benefits administration, and leave management.

· Experience administering HRIS and payroll systems; Paylocity experience preferred.

· Working knowledge of workers' compensation administration, unemployment claims, and return-to-work programs.

· Strong leadership, coaching, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.

· Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain strict confidentiality, and make independent decisions regarding sensitive employment matters.

· Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.

· Ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to communicate effectively with employees, residents, families, vendors, and regulatory agencies.

· Ability to work flexible hours as necessary to meet operational needs, including occasional evenings or weekends.

· Valid California Driver's License and acceptable driving record, if required for business travel.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field
