A Day in the LifeHuman Factors (HF) Engineer will be placed as part of the R&D Engineering function of Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center R&D facility and will work with the Human Factors and User Experience team. The HF Engineer will join a fun, diverse and caring team, that believes in working collaboratively. It will be a good opportunity to work on products that are implanted in over a million patients.
  

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Apply human factors engineering methods to support product development activities, including user research, task analysis, and usability evaluation.
  • Assist in designing and executing formative usability studies and contribute to summative usability validation activities.
  • Analyses user data and identify usability issues, recommending improvements to enhance product safety and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners.
  • Support use-related risk analysis activities, including identification of use errors and mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to documentation required for regulatory submissions related to human factors.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams to meet project milestones and deliverables.
  • Communicate findings, insights, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced team members when needed.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Product Design, Engineering. (B. Des, M. Des, B.E/ B Tech, M Tech)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Practical knowledge of human factors engineering principles and usability methods.
  • Familiarity with medical device usability engineering standards (e.g., IEC 62366).
  • Ability to work independently on moderately complex assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Good and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess usability issues and recommend improvements.
    Nice to Have:
  • Experience supporting usability studies for medical devices or digital health solutions.
  • Exposure to use-related risk analysis and regulatory documentation.
  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Experience working in cross-functional product development teams.
  • Ability to adapt HF methods across different product types (software, hardware, systems).
