The Role

We are seeking an experienced and influential Group Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager to lead safety strategy and performance across Alex Fraser Group’s Recycling and Asphalt operations.

This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for the HSE function. Through consultation with, and engagement of the Leadership Team, you will develop and execute strategic initiatives, embed best‑practice systems, and lead cultural change to ensure consistent, industry‑leading safety performance across diverse operational environments.

Working closely with operational leaders, you will enable the business to achieve its goals safely, sustainably and in line with Heidelberg Materials’ values and expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to enable Alex Fraser to achieve and maintain industry leading safety performance.
  • By driving a culture of continuous improvement maintain and improve an effective HSEQ operating system that is aligned to, and avoid duplication of, the Heidelberg Materials Integrated Risk Management System (IRMS)
  • Lead Organisational Change in Safety Culture and Behaviour; achieve the highest levels of employee engagement in respect to HSE.
  • Hold all employees, and especially AFG leaders, to the highest standard of safety accountability; provide coaching, advice and feedback to increase others’ capability in safety management.
  • Drive continuous performance improvement through relevant metrics and reporting.
  • Collaborate across Heidelberg Materials and broader group safety networks to share and embed best practice

About You

You are a values‑led safety leader who combines strategic thinking with hands‑on engagement. You build trust, influence effectively at all levels and are comfortable challenging and supporting leaders to lift safety standards.

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience in HSE leadership within industrial, recycling, resources, manufacturing or asphalt environments
  • A tertiary qualification in Safety, or a related discipline combined with a formal safety qualification
  • Strong knowledge of safety management systems, risk management and incident investigation
  • A deep understanding of Australian safety legislation and regulatory frameworks
  • Proven experience coaching leaders and driving behavioural and cultural change
  • A collaborative, resilient and people‑focused leadership style

Skills Required

  • Extensive experience in HSE leadership within industrial, recycling, resources, manufacturing or asphalt environments
