ERM is the world’s largest specialist sustainability consultancy, with over 50 years of experience helping organizations navigate complex environmental, social, and governance challenges. We bring together a global community of experts to deliver meaningful impact for our clients and the planet.

Our Consulting Delivery Hub (CDH) in India is a critical part of ERM’s global consulting model enabling scalable, high-quality delivery across regions and service lines. CDH teams work in close partnership with regional consultants to support global client projects, providing specialist expertise, driving consistency, and enhancing delivery efficiency across our most important programmes.

As part of the Consulting Delivery Hub, you will collaborate with colleagues worldwide, contribute to complex sustainability projects, and play a key role in shaping the future of global consulting delivery.

Why this role matters?

As a HSE Specialist, you will support ERM’s global consulting delivery by producing and maintaining the health, safety and environment (HSE) deliverables that keep our clients’ operations compliant and their people safe. Working within the Safety & Sustainable Operations (SSO) service line of the Consulting Delivery Hub – and partnering with ERM consultants and client teams across EMEA, SEBU and North America – you will help translate HSE requirements into accurate, well-structured, review-ready outputs. As an individual contributor at the start of your consulting career, you will work under the direction of the project team, applying ERM methodologies and tools consistently. This role is critical to the consistency, quality and scalability of ERM’s HSE delivery, freeing regional experts to focus on client-facing advisory while you build a strong technical foundation in core HSE processes.

What your impact is?

  • HSE deliverables – risk assessments, inspection checklists, registers, compliance trackers and reports – are produced accurately, on time and to ERM standards, ready for regional review with minimal rework.

  • Client and project HSE data (incidents, observations, inspections, actions) is captured, tracked and reported reliably, giving regional teams a clear and current view of performance.

  • HSE management-system documentation stays aligned with ISO 45001 and client/legal requirements, supporting audit-readiness across the portfolio.

  • Regional consultants are effectively supported, with turnaround times and delivery consistency that make cross-region collaboration seamless despite time-zone differences.

  • Your growing technical competence steadily expands the range of HSE tasks you can own, adding to the hub’s overall delivery capacity.

What will you bring?

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in EHS, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science/Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • An early-career professional, typically with up to ~2 years of HSE/EHS or related experience – graduates and those with internship/placement experience are welcome.

  • Working knowledge of core HSE concepts – hazard identification, risk assessment, PPE, permit-to-work and incident/near-miss reporting – and of ISO 45001 management-system principles.

  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills, with high attention to detail and data accuracy.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and confidence learning HSE/EHS software and digital tools.

  • Clear written and verbal English communication and the ability to collaborate with remote, multicultural teams across time zones.

  • Well organized, able to follow established procedures and manage multiple tasks to deadlines under supervision.

Preferred qualifications, skills & competencies

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC), or an equivalent recognised HSE certificate – held or actively being pursued.

  • Exposure to ISO 45001 internal auditing or management-system implementation.

  • Familiarity with EHS compliance frameworks in EMEA/UK, the US (OSHA/EPA) or other international jurisdictions.

  • Experience in a global delivery, shared service or consulting environment.

  • Comfort using automation or AI-enabled tools to improve HSE reporting and analysis.

  • IOSH Managing Safely.

  • ISO 45001 Internal Auditor / awareness training.

  • IEMA Foundation Certificate (environmental) or equivalent.

  • First Aid or other relevant statutory safety training.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare, format and maintain HSE deliverables – risk assessments, method statements, inspection checklists, registers, toolbox-talk material and reports – to ERM templates and standards, under the direction of regional teams.

  • Maintain HSE records and management-system documentation (incidents, observations, inspections, permits, training logs) and keep trackers and dashboards current and accurate.

  • Support hazard identification and risk assessments and track control actions through to closure.

  • Compile and quality-check HSE data and produce periodic performance reports and summaries for project and regional leads.

  • Support the development of inductions, awareness sessions and training content.

  • Research applicable HSE legislation, standards and client requirements to support compliance reviews.

  • Escalate issues and queries to senior HSE colleagues and project leads and apply feedback to continuously improve delivery quality.

  • Consistently apply ERM methodologies, tools and quality/HSE procedures, including ERM’s own safety standards.
