GenScript Europe division, headquartered in Rijswijk, Netherlands, with a branch office in Oxford, UK, was established in 2019 to serve as a hub for commercial, technical support and logistic in the European and UK region. In our ongoing commitment to enhancing service for our EU clients, we have recently established our laboratory facility in the Netherlands in 2025.
The HSE specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive EHS programs and procedures to ensure the safety of employees, protection of the environment, and compliance with all relevant regulations. This position will lead GenScript Europe Division’s departments to drive a culture of safety and sustainability throughout the organization. The current work scope includes laboratory, offices and logistics centers in the Netherlands and the UK.

Work Arrangement: Minimum 4 days onsite in Rijswijk, Netherlands. Open to travel to other sites in Delft, Netherlands and Oxford, UK.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement HSE policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with local, national, and international regulations and best practices.
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential HSE risks and develop appropriate control measures.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the employees, including training, coaching, and performance management.
- Investigate and report on HSE incidents and near misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and other departments to ensure EHS considerations are integrated into all aspects of business activities.
- Monitor and evaluate HSE performance metrics and develop improvement plans as needed.
- Participate in construction project for contractor management and applicable legal permit.
- Stay updated on emerging HSE trends, regulations, and technologies and implement appropriate changes to the EHS program.
- Represent the company in interactions with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders on HSE matters.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the following fields: Environmental - Safety - Health, Chemical Engineering, or Biopharmaceuticals.
- Over 1 year of HSE work experience in life sciences, chemical, or food industries in the Netherlands (e.g., biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, healthcare, genomics, bioinformatics, agriculture, environmental science, diagnostics).
- Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and standards applicable in the Netherlands.
- Familiar with major regulations of European Union and UK is a plus.
- EHS certifications (e.g., CSP, NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent) are preferred.
- Experience with sustainability initiatives or corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs is a plus.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in English. Dutch or Chinese languages proficiency is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
