Are you detail-oriented, proactive and passionate about workplace safety? Join our Networks team as an HSE Officer in Gqeberha, where you’ll play a key role in strengthening safety awareness, monitoring compliance and ensuring a safe working environment across operations.
The key purpose of this role is to monitor and report on non-compliance with health and safety standards, identify workplace hazards, assist with incident investigations, support injury-on-duty processes and promote a strong safety culture across the business.
What you’ll do:- Monitor and report non-compliance relating to PPE requirements
- Perform daily workplace inspections to identify hazards and safety risks
- Report safety concerns from shop floor environments to management
- Monitor the safe use of equipment and ensure adherence to safety protocols
- Inspect moving machinery parts and confirm safe stacking, fire escape access and emergency exit compliance
- Assist with incident and accident investigations, identifying root causes
- Support the completion and administration of Injury on Duty (IOD) documentation
- Assist First Aiders with the treatment of IOD cases
- Facilitate safety talks and provide safety training when required
- Attend Health and Safety Committee meetings
- Perform routine safety inspections and internal safety standard checks
- Carry out incidental physical duties related to safety compliance, including signage and notice placement
- Promote improved safety awareness across operational teams
- Matric
- Training as a Health and Safety Representative
- First Aid training (advantageous)
- 2–5 years’ experience in a health and safety role
- Experience conducting incident and accident investigations
- Experience performing Health and Safety audits
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSH Act)
- Strong report writing skills
- Intermediate computer skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and professionally in operational environments
