Sedgman is currently seeking a fluent (Portuguese / English) HSE Manager to join our team, for a site-based role in Brazil.
At Sedgman, we deliver some of the world’s most complex mineral processing projects, supporting clients across the global resources and critical minerals sectors. As HSE Manager, you will provide the leadership, guidance and specialist expertise required to establish and maintain a safe, responsible and high-performing project environment.
This site-based role will work as a trusted adviser to project leadership and delivery teams. You will implement and continually improve the project HSE management system, monitor performance and compliance, and ensure risk, assurance, training and incident management processes are embedded throughout execution.
You will have the opportunity to shape HSE culture in line with the Sedgman One HSE Culture framework, from project establishment and create an environment where people understand the risks, take ownership and go home safely.
In this role, you will:
Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the project HSE management system in line with the corporate Sedgman HSE management system requirements.
Advise project leadership, employees and contractors on HSE risks, requirements and performance.
Champion the site HSE Management Plan, HSE Management System and ensure the site risk register is developed and reviewed as required
Lead and coach project HSE advisers and support capability development across the project.
Oversee project HSE audits, inspections, observations and critical control verification activities.
Monitor compliance with legislative, client and Sedgman HSE standards and requirements.
Support the investigation of critical incidents , and ensure corrective actions are appropriate and closed within required timeframes.
Oversee hazard identification, Operational Risk Assessments and the management of high-risk project activities.
Maintain accurate incident, assurance and performance reporting and identify trends requiring intervention.
Coordinate project-specific inductions, training and HSE awareness programmes.
Work with project and contractor teams to ensure statutory and role-specific training requirements are met.
Champion visible leadership, constructive engagement and continuous improvement in HSE performance.
Build a culture, in line with the Sedgman One HSE Culture framework, in which safety and environmental responsibility are integral to every project decision.
What we’re looking for
You’re an experienced HSE leader who combines strong technical knowledge with visible field leadership, practical judgement and the ability to build trust across project, client and contractor teams.
Degree / Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, along with 5 years of relevant experience working in a heavy industrial environment, preferably in the mining, mineral processing sector
Will consider 10 + years of relevant HSE experience working in a high risk, heavy industrial environment (mining, mineral processing, oil and gas, construction)
Professional fluency in Portuguese and English is required
Experience implementing HSE systems on large-scale construction projects.
Strong knowledge of risk management, audits, incident investigation and corrective action processes.
Confident stakeholder engagement across employees, contractors, clients and leadership teams.
Prior experience with an EPCM project delivery model is preferred.
Solid knowledge of applicable Brazilian HSE requirements is required.
Lead auditor, incident investigation and training qualifications are advantageous.
Demonstrated ability to coach frontline leaders and employees in practical HSE management.
Strong reporting, trend analysis and written communication capability.
Ability and willingness to work at the project site.
