What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for a confident, hands-on HSE Advisor to support our Port Hedland operations and partner with operational leaders, supervisors and crews to keep safety front of mind in fast-moving, high-risk environments.
Ideally, the successful candidate will be locally based in Port Hedland and work a 5:2 roster. However, FIFO from Perth may be considered for the right candidate, with an alternate roster arrangement applicable.
This is a role for someone who enjoys being visible in the field, building trust with teams and providing practical advice that helps people get the job done safely. You’ll play a key role in supporting Freo Group’s operational and project-based activities, strengthening safety culture, identifying risk and ensuring hazards, incidents and corrective actions are managed effectively.
The right person will bring strong technical HSE knowledge, sound judgement and the ability to influence positive safety behaviours across branch, site and project environments.
What you’ll bring to the team:
Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
Current Construction White Card.
Current driver’s licence.
Current First Aid and CPR qualifications.
Previous experience as a Health and Safety Advisor, HSE Advisor or similar role.
Strong working knowledge of Australian HSE legislation, industry standards and safe work practices.
Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments and incident investigations.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with employees, supervisors, leaders, clients and other stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate HSE records and reports.
A practical approach to identifying hazards, assessing risk and supporting effective controls.
The ability to support toolbox meetings, safety initiatives, training and awareness activities.
A positive, resilient and collaborative approach, with a genuine commitment to safety, quality and integrity.
What you’ll be doing:
Providing practical HSE advice, support and guidance to site management, supervisors and operational teams.
Supporting the delivery of safe work activities across branch, site and project environments.
Interpreting and applying HSE legislation, standards, policies, plans and procedures.
Conducting workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments to identify hazards, risks and non-compliances.
Monitoring workplace conditions and supporting the implementation of practical risk controls.
Reporting and supporting the investigation of incidents, hazards, injuries and near misses.
Assisting with identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
Tracking corrective actions and following up outstanding hazards or non-compliance items.
Maintaining accurate HSE records, reports and documentation.
Supporting HSE training, toolbox meetings, safety initiatives and awareness activities.
Promoting safe behaviours and leading by example.
Supporting compliance with Freo Group procedures, client requirements and relevant legislation.
Escalating unsafe work practices, incidents, hazards or unresolved corrective actions through the appropriate channels.
