The Opportunity

 

The Head of the Recruiting is responsible for the overall leadership of MMFA's strategy for recruiting, advisor development & succession planning for both advisors and agency leaders. This role is a field-facing leader with the ability to lead strategically, work within a matrix organization, manage a team of people and navigate escalated issues with an opportunistic mindset. Acting as the key relationship manager and main point of contact for recruiting, this role will work directly with General Agents and the field. This role is also charged with platform operations and ensuring the field is equipped to execute on strong recruiting - a key area of focus that will further enable advisor productivity and business development.

 

The Team

The Head of the Recruiting resides on a team within MassMutual Financial Advisors (“MMFA”) as a key leader in the Field Management organization, responsible for developing strategic solutions to meet recruiting quotas and build succession of critical field leadership roles. This role reports directly to MassMutual's Head of Field Management and works closely with senior leaders in MMFA and our Broker Dealer and will also require cross organizational collaboration with other MassMutual departments. Members of this team are strategic, agile, collaborative, and have strong communication skills. Influential leadership as well as matrix managing is critical to success.

 

The Impact:

The ideal candidate for this role will have industry recruiting experience with all advisor candidate types, including experienced vs. inexperienced advisors across protection and wealth management industries and will be familiar with models including individual advisors as well as practices and teams. You will have the ability to source, build relationships, and promote the MassMutual culture and value proposition to producers of all levels and all business models. You will also have a deep understanding of succession, business continuity and transition planning. You will create, coordinate and execute programs with advisors and GA's, along with MMFA's field and home office partners. Additionally, they will develop partnerships across numerous departments within MassMutual on large scale projects while engaging in day-to-day problem solving.

This individual will set the strategy for our Recruiting function within MMFA. You will implement the firm's recruiting vision, strategy, and value proposition. You will lead a team focused on developing and building programs, tools, processes and systems while supporting collateral aligned to the needs of field leadership and advisors in their efforts to further attract strong advisor talent. This team will also work closely with the Program Manager and Field Support teams for field recruiting to identify opportunities, create solutions and ensure the solutions developed get implemented within MMFA.

This leader will attract and motivate talent creating a culture that is metrics-driven with a focus on driving efficiency and creating value; monitor business and financial performance, industry best practices, and the external environment to enhance a competitive position within the recruiting market; inform MMFA regarding transition planning tactics across the industry.

Additionally, this leader will partner with firms to develop a Sales Manager and General Agent leadership pipeline through succession management and recruiting. You will focus on development of Sales Manager talent within firms. This leader will be responsible for developing a strategy to help our firms develop a diverse pipeline of advisors and recruiting strategies, and own General Agent recruiting and field leadership development program.

 

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience including industry certifications

  • Financial services experience

  • Prior experience working with field sales forces as well as the ability to build relationships with the home office

  • Success leading virtual teams

  • Prior track record in building partnerships with senior leaders

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and execute projects

  • Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship

 

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Industry recruiting experience with all advisor candidate types, including experienced vs. inexperienced advisors, Life insurance as well as in the wealth/GDC environment, and Individual vs. practices/teams

  • 10 years' experience working in financial services with direct recruiting experience

  • Management or leadership experience

  • Experience collaborating with a team with varying skill sets

  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented individual who is capable of self-managing and multi-tasking in a fast-paced, demanding environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present complex information clearly and appropriately handle sensitive information

  • The ability to adapt to changing business priorities and a strong work ethic

  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence outcomes

  • An individual who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves, is agile and can pivot from strategic to tactical with ease
