HR Generalists here’s your chance to join a great Human Resources team and build valuable experience with an industry leader! We are seeking an individual experienced in all facets of HR who can lead, support and guide our Portage and LaPorte plants in all aspects of HR discipline. This is a great opportunity for a results-driven professional to advance their career! The successful Human Resource Generalist (HRG) is responsible for providing HR support in Employee/Labor Relations, Recruiting and Onboarding, Benefits, Training & Development, and policy compliance. This position will be responsible for our Portage and LaPorte, IN Facilities.

 

  • Implement Human Resources policies and guidelines to meet organizations needs and to comply with state and federal laws.
  • Support Labor Relations and collaborate with local leadership and union representatives.  
  • Manage the recruitment process for hourly positions: post openings, review applications and resumes, interview candidates, evaluate applicants.
  • Conduct new employee orientation to insure employees gain an understanding of benefit plans, company policies and company procedures.
  • Benefit administration to include claims resolution, benefit enrollments, terminations and assisting with Annual Open Enrollment
  • Provide guidance to management on Compliance issues, Employee Training, Discipline and Terminations.
  • Process complaints through proper investigatory procedures.
  • Set up and process all new hire paperwork, to include entering applicant and new hire information into HRIS system.
  • Initiate any type of employee change of status in appropriate system. (e.g., change of address, departmental transfers, rate increases, promotions, terminations, etc.)
  • Verify HRIS data/payroll changes by generating a report from HRIS system.
  • Compile and maintain employee records.
  • Update employee files to document personnel actions and to provide information for payroll and other employment related uses.
  • Examine employee files to answer inquiries and provides information to authorized people.
  • Compile data from employee records, and HRIS system to prepare reports.
  • Maintain and distribute current employee information, policy and procedure manuals, and other communication.
  •  Maintain records and generate reports pertaining to Affirmative Action Plan and other required compliance.
  • Provides Employee Relations flow-through support for assigned area, assuring all communications and documents are correct and processed in a timely manner. 
  • Coordinate employee relations activities at the plant level to promote employee engagement. (Wellness Events, Service Award Programs, Recognition lunches, etc.)

Qualifications

The selected HR Generalist will have:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.  A degree or certification in HR or related field is strongly preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience providing support in a human resources capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, HRIS systems (ADP preferred), and use of the Internet is required
  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices including labor law compliance, EEO, AA, and benefits programs
  •  Ability to maintain the highest level of discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality
  • Superior time management and accuracy
  • Ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem solve
  • Confident team player – able to influence and persuade through strong presentation and communication skills
  • 10% travel required

Skills Required
