Position Summary

The Human Resources Director serves as the senior HR leader for the Tom Wood Group, responsible for setting and executing a comprehensive people strategy that drives business performance, strengthens culture, and ensures compliance across all locations.

This role acts as a strategic partner to executive leadership while overseeing all HR functions, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compliance, training and development, and HR operations. The HR Director will lead and develop a team of HR professionals and ensure consistent execution of HR initiatives across a multi-site organization.


Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Business Partnership
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, talent strategy, and culture initiatives
  • Develop and execute a company-wide HR strategy aligned with business goals and growth initiatives
  • Identify organizational risks and proactively implement HR solutions that support performance and retention
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, and support teams for multiple locations
  • Build a high-performing HR function focused on accountability, service, and continuous improvement
  • Establish clear expectations, KPIs, and development plans for HR team members
Employee Relations & Compliance
  • Provide expert guidance on complex employee relations issues, investigations, and performance management
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as internal policies and SOPs
  • Oversee consistent and compliant execution of leadership hiring practices, including structured reference checks  
HR Operations & Systems
  • Oversee HR systems (HRIS, ATS, payroll coordination) to ensure data accuracy and operational efficiency
  • Establish reporting and analytics to provide leadership with actionable insights on workforce metrics
  • Ensure consistent record keeping, documentation, and process standardization across all business units
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
  • Oversee full-cycle recruiting strategy, ensuring speed, quality, and consistency across all roles
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to optimize sourcing, interview processes, and hiring manager accountability
  • Drive workforce planning initiatives, including forecasting, succession planning, and pipeline development  

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including leadership at the Director level or above
  • Proven experience leading HR functions in a multi-site or high-volume environment
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, HR compliance, and employee relations best practices
  • Experience with HR systems (ADP, ATS platforms such as Hireology preferred)
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and influencing skills
  • Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a fast-paced environment
  • Preferred: Experience in the automotive industry, or demonstrated success supporting both retail and non-retail business environments
