The Role
CAA is seeking an HR Data Engineer to join its Corporate Human Resources People Analytics Team, based in LA. The candidate will report to the Head of HR Data, and play a critical role in leveraging data to drive HR strategies, optimize workforce planning, and enhance employee experiences. This position involves designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines, analytics solutions using Microsoft Fabric, Workday and related tools. The role focuses on transforming HR data into actionable insights for areas such as talent acquisition, compensation, performance management, employee engagement, and compliance. The successful candidate will ensure data accuracy, governance, and security while supporting enterprise-wide people analytics initiatives.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and manage data pipelines and ETL processes using Microsoft Fabric to ingest, transform, and store HR data from sources like Workday.
Create and maintain Fabric workspaces, including OneLake storage, shortcuts, and semantic models for efficient data modeling and analysis.
Assist in the development of advanced reports, dashboards, and visualizations using Power BI (with DAX queries) and Workday reporting tools (e.g., Workday Prism) to provide insights on HR metrics such as employee turnover, diversity, recruitment efficiency, and compensation trends.
Perform data analysis and ad-hoc queries using SQL/T-SQL to support HR decision-making, ensuring data quality, privacy, and compliance with regulations like GDPR or CCPA.
Optimize data governance, security (e.g., Row-Level Security, Object-Level Security), and performance through monitoring tools like Fabric Monitoring Hub.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, conduct quarterly data reviews, and implement system enhancements or migrations.
Support real-time analytics, event-driven architectures, and automation scripting to improve HR processes like performance-based assessments and workforce planning.
Mentor junior team members on best practices in data engineering, analytics, and HR technology; document processes and maintain compliance with ethical principles.
Qualifications
More than 5 years of professional experience in data engineering, data science, analytics, or a similar role, preferably in HR or people analytics environments.
Hands-on experience creating and maintaining Microsoft Fabric workspaces, including data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration.
Proven track record working with Workday HCM for configuration, reporting, and integrations.
Experience in HR data management, including employee lifecycle processes (e.g., recruiting, development, engagement, workforce planning).
Skills and Knowledge
Proficiency in Microsoft Fabric ecosystem (e.g., Synapse Data Engineering, Data Warehouse, Real-Time Analytics, OneLake).
Strong knowledge of SQL/T-SQL for querying and data manipulation.
Expertise in Power BI, including DAX for advanced calculations and visualizations.
Proficiency in Python for data processing, machine learning, and scripting
Knowledge of semantic models (e.g., in Power BI or Fabric for data modeling and relationships).
Familiarity with data governance, compliance, and security practices
Understanding of ETL orchestration, performance tuning, and big data technologies.
Location
This role is hybrid, based out of the Los Angeles office.
Compensation
The annual base salary for this position is in the range of $132,000 -$170,000. This position also is eligible for benefits and discretionary bonus. Ultimately, the salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, business sector, and geographic location, among other criteria.
