The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a strategic advisor and trusted consultant to leaders across Holland America Line and Seabourn, aligning people strategies with business objectives to drive organizational performance, employee engagement, and leadership effectiveness. Partnering with executives and people leaders across multiple functions, this role provides guidance and solutions in talent management, organizational design and effectiveness, succession planning, employee relations, change management, performance management, and workforce planning. Reporting to the Director, HR Business Partner, the HRBP collaborates closely with leaders and cross-functional HR teams to develop and implement people strategies that support business growth, strengthen organizational capability, and foster a high-performing, inclusive culture. This role coaches leaders through complex employee and organizational challenges, identifies opportunities for process improvement, and influences decision-making through data-driven insights and sound human capital practices. The HRBP plays a key role in driving employee engagement, leadership development, change initiatives, and talent strategies while ensuring compliance with employment regulations and company policies. Success in this role requires strong business acumen, relationship-building skills, and the ability to effectively influence stakeholders at all levels while championing Holland America Line and Seabourn's culture and values.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Business Partnership & Organizational Effectiveness

  • Serve as the primary HR advisor to business leaders, aligning people strategies with organizational priorities and business objectives.

  • Partner with leadership teams to assess organizational effectiveness and implement solutions that improve performance, collaboration, and workforce capability.

  • Provide strategic guidance on organizational design, workforce planning, restructuring, and change initiatives.

  • Use business insights, workforce data, and employee feedback to identify trends, risks, and opportunities and recommend proactive solutions.

  • Influence leadership decision-making by balancing business needs, employee experience, and organizational objectives.

Talent Management, Leadership Development & Succession Planning

  • Partner with leaders to drive talent management processes, including talent reviews, succession planning, leadership assessments, and development planning.

  • Coach leaders on effective people leadership practices, employee development, and building high-performing teams.

  • Identify critical talent needs and collaborate with Recruiting and Learning & Development teams to attract, develop, and retain top talent.

  • Support career development initiatives and succession strategies that strengthen organizational bench strength and future leadership pipelines.

  • Facilitate talent discussions and development planning sessions across client groups.

Employee Relations, Performance Management & Culture

  • Provide expert consultation and guidance on employee relations matters, conflict resolution, performance management, and workplace concerns.

  • Partner with leaders to address complex employee situations, conduct investigations as needed, and ensure appropriate and consistent resolution.

  • Coach leaders on performance management practices including goal setting, feedback, development planning, and accountability.

  • Champion employee engagement, inclusion, and culture initiatives that reinforce Holland America Line and Seabourn's values and Culture Essentials.

  • Identify and address organizational issues that may impact employee engagement, retention, productivity, or workplace climate.

HR Programs, Compliance & Change Leadership

  • Lead and support the implementation of HR programs, policies, and initiatives across assigned business areas.

  • Partner with Compensation, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, and other HR Centers of Excellence to ensure consistent delivery of HR services and solutions.

  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, labor regulations, company policies, and HR governance requirements.

  • Drive change management efforts by preparing leaders and teams to successfully navigate organizational and business changes.

  • Recommend and implement process improvements that mitigate risk, enhance operational efficiency, and improve the employee experience.

  • Scope: The HR Business Partner serves as a trusted advisor to leadership teams across Holland America Line and Seabourn, supporting a diverse portfolio of client groups and business functions. This role partners executives, directors, managers, and employees to align people strategies with business objectives while driving organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, talent management, and employee engagement initiatives. Working across multiple brands and organizational levels, the HRBP collaborates closely with HR Centers of Excellence and business leaders to ensure consistent implementation of people programs, policies, and practices that support organizational growth and business performance.

  • Problem solving: This role routinely addresses complex people and organizational challenges requiring sound judgment, business acumen, and a balanced approach to risk management. The HRBP evaluates employee relations matters, organizational dynamics, workforce trends, and leadership challenges to identify root causes and develop practical solutions. By analyzing data, gathering stakeholder input, and assessing business impacts, the HRBP provides strategic recommendations on organizational design, talent decisions, conflict resolution, change management, and performance concerns. Success requires the ability to navigate ambiguity, influence outcomes, and achieve solutions that support both employee experience and business objectives.

  • Impact: The HR Business Partner directly influences organizational performance by developing and implementing people strategies that enhance leadership effectiveness, employee engagement, retention, and talent outcomes. Through coaching leaders, supporting workforce decisions, and advancing succession and development programs, this role helps build organizational capability and a strong leadership pipeline. The HRBP plays a critical role in fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture while ensuring compliance with employment laws, company policies, and HR best practices. The impact of this position is reflected in stronger business results, improved organizational health, and the successful execution of strategic priorities across Holland America Line and Seabourn.

  • Leadership: Although this role may not have direct people management responsibility, it exercises significant leadership through influence, partnership, and expertise. The HRBP serves as a trusted coach and consultant to leaders, providing guidance on leadership behaviors, team effectiveness, change leadership, and talent development. By championing the company's Culture Essentials and modeling collaborative leadership, the role drives accountability, promotes engagement, and builds trust across the organization. The HRBP leads through relationships, influencing business decisions and organizational outcomes while helping leaders create an environment where employees can perform, grow, and contribute to the long-term success of the business.

 

Essential/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in human resources, or a related field.

  • Preferred Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Experience in a specialist role within employee relations or human resources.

  • Certification in HR or related field (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP).

 

Essential Experience Required:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to analyze data and use it to drive decision-making.

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Experience working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

 

Travel: No or very little travel likely

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

 

This position is classified as “Hybrid.”  As a Hybrid role, it requires employees to work from a designated Holland office Tuesday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Mondays and Fridays.

  • Base Salary  Range: $92,600 to $125,000. The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidates' qualifications and experience uniquely.
